Why Centos?

I have used Centos in the past for general purposes, but I see this distro mentioned several times in this section.
Is it necessary for hosting, or any Linux will do?
What makes it special?

Centos is very popular, especially for web hosting because cPanel run only on Centos.
But you can use Debian or Ubuntu .

Their is nothing special about it, all good flavors of Linux are just as good if not better. Each distribution has it's oven benefits but each can do the job of any other.

cPanel requires CentOS which is why it's most used.

So, can I install cPanel on other distros, couse I like to work with other specialized distros like Kali and Artistx.

I have just told VirtuBox that I like other specialized distros, and install cPanel whereever you want. But I'm going to install CentOS now, regardless.

There may be other reasons to make it more popular for servers. One of the major thing is it is based on RHEL and the user base. RHEL is quite a big player, the OS and management tool is well known and with their large user base and volunteer support it is easy to find solutions for most of the issues. Additionally the standard training for Linux people take is the certifications from RedHat and many people are more familair with RHEL tool sets when it comes to server management toolsets.

The main difference between CentOS and Redhat is you get support with a Redhat subscription. CentOS releases the same patches that Redhat does, so if you do not need support there is no need to use Redhat. But do not get this wrong, think of this as the same type of support Microsoft will give you for a copy of Windows.

Many corporations use Redhat simply to say they have an certified enterprise linux.

Yes it is for hosting. When it comes to involvement of server environment it gives good feasible for commercial purpose. Centos strives to achieve RHEL package compliance.

As you would like to run the cPanel, you will need to use CentOS. CentOS is more secure, stable and reliable to use. It is free.

It has large community and team of developers which will provide you free support.

I'm not fan about centos i prefer debian for security and safe and I think it's more stable!
