How to upgrade centos 6 to centos 7 or 8?

How can I upgrade centos 6 to centos 7 or 8? or do I need to reinstall the server to upgrade from the scratch?

Its pretty easy to find if you google. It can be done but I suggest you to migrate on fresh install of AlmaLinux as Centos 8 is going to be EOL this December.

Or Rocky Linux. Always do a new install.

I would really recommend to do a fresh install since the "upgrade" for old OS like centos6 will have alot of issues.

I do get all of the caution and people saying "just fresh install" but if you really don't want to do that then I would say that it's worth giving a go to upgrading.

First ensure that you have a complete backup off-server.

Upgrade 6 to 7, 7 to 8, ensure that it is 8.5 (last release of CentOS) and then run the AlmaLinux migration tool.
