WHM cPanel has been installed on my server and it was 6 months from the last update. I'm wanting to upgrade WHM cPanel to latest version from ssh. I googled this but not found a result. Do you guys have experience with this?

You can always login to your WHM and go to cPanel -> Upgrade to Latest Version

I believe the script is located at /usr/local/cpanel/scripts/upcp

You just need to use /scripts/upcp command and it will get your WHM/Cpanel updated , however before you update the version go through the version updates first which can be found on cpanel site itself.

I searched and found this on cpanel forum but not sure what it worked for.

run this /usr/local/cpanel/scripts/upcp from ssh?

Do I need to backup my website data before running upgrade whm/cpanel?

I am afraid of braking websites after upgrading.

For safety, I think You should upgrade via WHM, it is very easy

I use screen command then then I run "/scripts/upcp --force" and then disconnect from SSH.

After 30 minute or more, I again access my SSH and open screen and If process is done then I simply close my SSH.

However automatic update is much better but sometime they block automatic upgrade for few days so I need to use SSH command.
