hi,
I own a web page hosted on linux hosting ...
However, due to the large number of visitors, my website becomes noticeably slower ...

A friend advised to move to Windows Server that is supposedly faster ?? some experience?

No, Windows server is more expensive but not faster than linux. If you are not using ASP.NET code for your website, you should never need a Windows Server.

Linux is obviously better than Windows hosting hence you should continuing using what you are using.
If your site is getting more visitors daily, you should move to a strong VPS or a dedicated server, that will solve all your problems.

Switching to windows server is not a solution , If you are on a shared hosting package at the moment you should upgrade to VPS , evaluate your requirements.

You can go for either cloud based VPS too in order to fulfill the website requirements.

As a asp.net developer, and a host with a large number of Windows servers, I am a big fan of Windows for web hosting.

I often challenge the statements that "Linux is better" or "Linux is faster" as this is simply not the case.

However, I do believe you should stick with the OS your programing language is designed for.
Asp.net can run on either, but is better on Windows.
Php can run on either, but is better on Linux.

If your site is slow, you need to:
Optimised your website
and/or
Increase your resources (move to a larger plan/vps/server)

Simply switch OS will not help.

Ok do some stuff to improve yours website:
1. try to use CDN like CloudFlare or Incapsula, its will cache and do 1\3 for the work that yours apache do.
2. Move to larger VPS \ Dedicated server, maby you out of ram or yours Disk is busy.
3. Check yours website, if you have large Images or big PHP files that make yours website to load,
Also maby Javascripts or other scripts.
4. Try to use Nginx and not Apache, also create a rule to collect data in yours website and block the black traffic.
5. Also use 2+ servers and manage it in the DNS servers, make 1-1 connect to each server.

Also PM me with yours website URL ill check out what i can help you more with :)

Windows does not give any additional performance to your sites. I recommend checking to see if you reach any hosting limits from your hosting provider .

2. Then try to optimize your site for performance, that my include coding, database management etc.

3.Also you can try to see if your hosting provider can provide cache mods to lower file loading or requesting time.

4. You may need to upgrade the your web hosting plan.

No, we do not recommend you to move the website in the Linux VPS to a windows VPS because windows vps should be more expensive and it wont help to load your website quickly. You may configure Nginx as a Reverse Proxy for Apache.

Nginx can serve only static content natively and keep it as lightweight as possible. Nginx relies on separate applications such as PHP FastCGI Process Manager (FPM), Tomcat, or Apache to serve dynamic content and that's the best part of using the more-powerful Apache and the more quick and light Nginx together.

Windows will be more slower because of it require more resource than Linux and also you will be need to convert your site.

Try to find why your site is running slow? If your provider put any limitation like If cross x amount of connection then cap port speed to xyz.
