WP Hosting Recommendation?

Hello,

i'm unsure if this is frowned upon of there are numerous other threads which talk about the same but i'm after some hosting recommendations.

Specifically for WordPress sites majority of the time, not Windows and ideally have gzip compression and keep alive turned on as default, or at least easy enough for me to turn on. Up to date PHP etc etc

Not massively expensive so i assume that rules out a dedicated server.

Any hosting providers out there that achieve all this?

thanks,

Hi

How much space are you looking for ? How many sites ?

mod_deflate is pretty standard on hosting servers these days as keep alive enabled on most providers.

Are you looking for a managed provider? Do you need 24/7 support? How experienced are you? How much traffic do you plan on getting?

As previously said, Gzip compression and keep alive enabled are pretty standard on most shared hosting providers. If you get a VPS with full root access, you can change them according to your needs.

The more information you provide the better. State what you are looking for in as much details as possible.
Server location?
24/7 Tech Support?
Disk space?
Bandwidth and etc.

The more info you give the better chance of getting good recommendation based on your spec request.

Best of luck!

Since this post is a few months old...the question to you now is, have you found a solution to your needs?

Were you able to make a list and short list of hosts that fit your needs...and have you moved to that...or are you still searching?

Let us know :smart:

Are you referring to a managed WordPress package? If you are, I do have a recommendation. I've read in some sites that 1&1 hosting is the best when it comes to managed WordPress packages. The company says that if you avail of the managed WP package, the load time of a WP site would be fast and they would be the ones in charge of optimization and updating.

Also, the cost of hosting 1 WordPress site with 1&1 hosting starts at a discounted price of $0.99 a month! That's an extremely low price as compared to its competitors. After a 1 year subscription though, the price would balloon to $7.99 per month. Check them out. You might like them.

I knew I would see something to the effect of BlueHost, HostGator, GoDaddy or something like that (lo and behold, BlueHost was suggested).

The way I always understood it was that self-hosting meant forgoing the hosting subscription, but there is no way around that without getting into some rather complex computing.

Then there is free hosting, but I have been cautioned about that too. 000WebHost has some complaints in terms of reliability and performance, from what I recall.

I can recommend what not to use, which is Google App Engine. Hosting a WordPress website there is good if you're experimenting with how to do it, but not if you expect large amounts of traffic. GAE is designed for medium to enterprise level businesses if I were to take a wild guess.
