I am setting up URL structure and permalinks for a new domain. Just our of curiosity, which one do you prefer, WWW or non-WWW on your domain name?

For example

Code:
www.example.com
or

Code:
http://example.com
I saw more websites using www but some removed it in their url, didn't know why. Any comments?

Thanks
David
None, it’s entirely up to you and what your personal preference is. Personally I prefer to use non-WWW as it makes the URL shorter.

However, regardless of which one you decide to go with you should do some SEO tweaking and set a preferred domain.
You should redirect (permanent or 301 redirect) the non-preferred domain to your preferred one. Because search engines consider URLs with and without WWW as two different websites.

A basic Google search for “how to redirect www to non-www” (or vice versa) should point you in the right direction.
Cheers and good luck!

One thing I haven't seen being mentioned here is cookies.

While I'm a proponent of non-WWW as that is how Chrome is showing URLs nowadays and with it being shorter and more elegant, non-WWW domains will pass down cookies to all of its subdomains.

Unnecessary cookies may hurt performance and the cookies can be read by third parties if you use different services for the subdomains.

Www is something archaic in my opinion. Www is short for world wide web and its useless nowadays. I wonder why someone would want to use it anyway.
