What is the difference between hosting forum and free forum hosting?

Can anyone tell me what is the difference between hosting forum and free forum hosting or forum hosting? sometimes I typed forum hosting or hosting forum on Google but it is giving me different results. I could not distinguished what are the differences between these terms. Anyone explains me?

I think they are similar but free forum hosting is a kind of service that you will not pay any fees to use their hosting services.

why don't you add specific feature[which you expect along with forum script] in search term as well.

Requirements :
1) your own domain name
2) hosting account
3) Forum script : there are paid and free versions available in the market.

Alternatives : blogger template, wordpress template.

search terms : free forum script, forum cms, self-hosted forum, etc.

If you want to start a forum for free MyBB or PhpBB will be great but if you are ready to pay then vbulletin is the first and best choice.

There are many such forum applications which you can use to build your own forum for your community.


Few examples are SMF forums, or phpbb forums. You will need a hosting account where you can install those applications which will be accessible to your friends. They can then signup to your forum where you can discuss your topics.

I believe all of three are same in purpose and the purpose is to provide help people who are seeking the for hosting in terms of web hosting, shared hosting, free hosting, vps, dedicated server, cloud, host billing or many others hosting supportive things. Forum hosting and hosting forum is basically the same. The free forum hosting are different from both of others because in free forum hosting people disucuss the topic of free hosting which means people who seeking the free hosting can be found on the free hosting forum. Also people who are providing free hosting on their website advertise on free hosting forum. I hope this will clear your doubts. Feel free to correct me if am wrong

They may seem one and the same, but actually they are different.

FREE Forum Hosting: you will expect to see a company offering free forum hosting, but to your suprise, you will see hosts telling you when you buy hosting from them, you can also host a forum with them for free with some OS software.

I found out some free forum hosting and they are allowing users to create forum from their platform but under a sub domain. That's not my exception because it has many limitations and I can not control any parts on the forum if needed.
