What is offshore hosting?

I was wondering if anyone could explain me what does offshore hosting mean? I viewed some offers on this forum and they are offering offshore hosting but I don't know wha it is. Is it something different with normal web hosting plans? what is good and does it have any benefit when using offshore hosting?

Offshore hosting is web hosting where the servers are not located in the USA.

Some prefer this to avoid DMCA requests if they plan on using copywriter content.

Offshore hosting is generally used by warez website owners , streaming , hosting copyrighted contents etc... So in short things that can not be hosted as per USA laws can be hosted on these offshore servers which are hosted out of USA e.g. servers hosted in Netherlands , Germany are offshore servers .

Most legit legal use of server would not require offshore hosting.

An exception to this could be someone that's wants to store sensitive data (perhaps a company) in a location which would be difficult for any government or anyone else to seize without breaking into the server and stealing the data. Sort of like how some people have good reasons for using banks in Switzerland.

I read about DMCA requests but I didn't think it only applied in USA. So, if this doesn't work in where is not location in USA then how Google DCMA report works? It is applying for all websites on all locations.

If so, I can have offshore share hosting, offshore VPS or offshore dedicated server. It's a kind of web hosting.

Hosting providers offer web hosting and the servers are usually located in the same country, (example country A) but at times there may be a restriction for hosting specific websites on the servers due to restriction by law of that country (A). If the servers are located at a distant place which does not fall in within the jurisdiction of the country (A) then hosting can be given to the same users whose website were considered illegal in the country (A) but elsewhere it is legal. So this hosting in which the servers are located in a data centre which is out the specified law restricted geographical location is known as offshore hosting.

Do you know what "Offshore" means regardless of offshore hosting? it means outside the U.S. if you live there. Anywhere but not your region. Maybe it's for copyright problems or anything similar or something that seems illegal so you go with offshore hosting, oh and it's definitely has lower prices!

Hosting your websites or ordering the hosting services from location other than your location where you are leaving. Generally, people choose the offshore locations when there is ban on something which can't be hosted in their own country. There are offshore shared hosting service, offshore VPS hosting, offshore dedicated hosting. You can opt to any of your need.

There will not be any copyright issue or rules/regulation like your country so you can host anything which is allowed in that country where your offshore server is.

As others mentioned it is hosting outside your country but the term offshore is used to avoid local laws. These servers are located at countries where internet laws are not very strict or they are still in evolution phase. Also offshore hosting is dying, people use it avoid to copyright laws but you can see huge giants of torrents are dying and in near future I don't think avoiding copyright laws will be possible.

Also some domain hosting and registars companys claim to be offshore based, in order to avoid UDRP procedures.
the whois privacy is only for public, if some autority wish to identify a domain holder or where a website is hosted, they are able to do so. Offshore "leads" to enhance privacy, but i guess that is misleading.

Offshore hosting simply means your company is located at a certain country but your service is not available with that country. You serve other countries or place. There are a lot of companies doing this strategy. They choose the countries that has a low compensation expenses for the employees. Most of the BPO do these strategy.

Its nothing but hosting your website, data or application to a far-off Datacenter location from your place of origin. There are many reasons for taking your hosting offshore, reasons like hosting copyrighted content, DMCA content , Hacking websites, adult content and warez hosting are few amongst them. There are servers that run/host a website except its located in another country. Many people use this because it is much harder to shut down legally and harder to contact.
