.xyz cost always around $1, you can buy it for that price at internetbs.net

I use .xyz too from namecheap but beware that .xyz has alot of spammers so alot of the .xyz are and maybe blacklisted by mail providers or end up in domain blacklists for emails. So I wouldn't use .xyz for any type of site which relies on alot of mailing list/email newsletter mailouts to clients/visitors/members. What Gecko has already touched on.

The same can be said for other low cost domain extensions, they attract spammers and thus have higher incidents of spam

There are several that you can get for less than $1 at various registrars.

Namecheap lately has has many different domain extensions available for $.88. Here is the link: https://www.namecheap.com/promos/2016/crazy-88.aspx

If you want to check what's available cheap then you can check domcomp.com and they have many different registrars and hundreds of domain extensions and their current prices.

One thing to think about though is not just the price but how good the registrar is. Some are great and other are a nightmare. ;)

I was planning on hosting a testing domain with Namecheap, but I've never used them before. Are they a "nightmare"?

Sorry, if I'm highjacking your thread, Chris Worner. My response is to go by ulterios's advice.

Namecheap is my primary registrar and by far the best IMO. Their support/service is what sets them apart from the rest. I have used many, many registrars over many years and they are the best I have ever used.

Their shared hosting also gives a lot better resources than any others that I have used and it performs awesome. I have tried a large amount of shared hosting services and theirs is the best I have tried and the same awesome support.

The support that I have gotten from them is always fast and knowledgeable. I have used their support a lot, not for issues with hosting, just some things that I have needed and they have never disappointed me once.

I'm sure that you'll be happy with them for either domains, hosting or both.

So, are they a "nightmare"? Not at all, about as far from it as you can get!

If you are looking for a "nightmare" host then I will be happy to refer you to one! ;)

P.S. Love the avatar, Freddy is awesome! ;)

I have few domains I want to register but have to wait until I get paid again. I made the mistake of registering one at a2hosting and it cost me nearly $15. Thanks for the great advice. Next ones will definitaly be at NC. And no, I don't need a nightmare hostng service at the moment but I'll let you know if I ever do.

It could have been a lot more expensive if you would have registered it at NetworkSolutions where domains are a lot more than most registrars. Their .com price is about $35.

Thanks for the great advice.
You are quite welcome. I am glad that I could help. :)

Just let me know if the need arises. I can refer you to the 2 that held my sites and data hostage while they tried to extort me out of thousands of dollars! :ranting_w:

.tk is free. I don't think you can go cheaper than that.

Yeah it's free but not the best choice in many cases. Some people see that extension and won't trust a site on it because of the many spammers and scammers that use the free domains.

Personally I would rather spend a dollar and get something better.

Name cheap is a very good option for 88 cent domain and I do agree with a lot of previous comment. However there is a catch with Namecheap, if you check it out most of the 88 cent domain is first year for 88 cent only, subsequent year can cost plenty. My dot host domain I register for first year will cost me 100 or more after first year. Same with many other one ranging from $10 dollar to $50.00. Do calculate ahead of time on what you would like to spend on second year.

However in my knowledge the longer the TLD release the chance of it's being cheaper pretty much will be greater. You can also search for deal for that extension you own and than transfer it out of Namecheap or vice versa when it is couple months away from expired. However you must consider a possibility that no where else is cheaper and you have to pay that full cost on second year or simply buy another 88 cent domain and move your website.

1&1 is doing pretty cheap prices for the first year however I do say it is not something to go for if you will be keeping the domain for more than a year.

The first year is very low for most extensions but the price goes much higher than other registrars after the first year.

You just have to be real careful if using 1&1. They are known to cause many headaches for many customers. You also have to make sure that you do not keep a credit card on file with them or they will automatically bill you many times for domains, hosting or other services, even after the services are cancelled or no longer there.

Many people have had to deal with 1&1 and once you have a run in with them you won't want to use them again. You'll usually get your money back for credit card charges but it can sometimes take quite a while.

They also will many times make transferring domains out a PITA just to try to keep you, especially if you are transferring many.

No point in going with a cheaper solution as it won't do you any good. Make sure that you stick with the top level domains like .com , .net and .org

.xyz is the cheapest from what I have seen but as mentioned it has a bad rep with spam and fishing scams. Not a good idea to use it for any businesses. I have a few but use them for modifying themes and coding off of my main sites. That is the only way I will ever use them. If you plan on selling anything, best to just avoid it.

There are many cheap domain extensions from .xyz, .abc, .ru and so on. Check godaddy and namecheap. You'll get a couple of them for a discounted of $0.99 per one.

Namecheap has the very cheap prize of buying domain extension and i agree with you. They just offer you and provides the best quality of service than the other hosting company. They are reliable in terms of security features and tools for creating or starter a website. This is widely used by many website creators to create a temporary or even permanently published contents.

Well, seeing posts that are from way back 2015, these days, there are several but Namecheap still cuts the top list.
