Do you create your own vps templates to deploy for customers? If so what is in your base install for each OS version? Do you deploy with a control panel installed? Any other information about your templates, would be great.

Yes, I would say most providers use a template for common distributions it just saves time. Our servers without a panel have a minimal configuration with only common services configured and running such as SSH FTP Apache so the customer is free to configure the server as they wish with a minimal installed base.

cPanel is just installed on top of the base install if requested with the server. The end product is provided to the customer once it has been updated and tested.

Yes I'm using my own templates with all needed to be deployed. The basic templates are only configured with SSH and Cloudinit, and with a control panel, Plesk can be setup and used as a template because it provide the ability to be reset when you launch the VM. So make a template is pretty easy

Hi

Manyy of clients have cpanel installed templates but they have to keep it updated time to time. It will help to create a server with panel installed easily and quickly but if you are not keeping the template uptodate, that can also cause issues. Since cpanel is having freequent updates, this also can cause issues.

So better get base os installed and install control panel as per the client's request manually

It isn't very reliable to use a pre-configured template when using OpenVZ, and the snapshot thing doesn't work that good either. We use the default template with or without cPanel included depending on whether the customer signs up for unmanaged VPS or managed VPS.
