I have read posts on this forum and more people are saying that if a website is hosted on a good hosting service, it can affect to search results, it will get better rankings. Is it true? how a web hosting can affect search results? what factors? can any one point out the reasons?

Hi Emily,

Yes good hosting can benefit SEO, this is mostly due to page loading time. Google will down rank a site if it's spider bots take to long to be served a page(s).

The most important factor of the SEO is page speed. But again its not the just hosting to get better SEO ranking. You must have a light weight website , optimized , well organized with unique contents and images.

Thank you for sharing.

Yes, if you want to avoid downtime for your website, you need to choose right web host, which provides you good uptime.Uptime of the website is an important factor when it comes to SEO. For this reason, I always recommend that customers do not choose a hosting plan solely based on price, but rather choose quality service. It is always better to avoid cheaper hosting solutions.

I think hosting will affect SEO a lot. Choosing quality hosting will make your website load faster and more stable. Those are important factors in SEO, Google will treat your website more trust when you have those points. IMO

I don't know about search engines but I know that if website need lot of time to load I will give up and leave that web. And there is, of course, website availability. The more websites inaccessible less attention will have.

And all that will be avoided with good, stable web hosting.
Which means that your pages will load faster and your website will be more available (or have better uptime). So website will not yous ranking and visitors.

I won't say that page load time is the most important thing in SEO, but it is definitely amongst them. A good web host will come with great uptime, speed, and great customer suport (often ignored).

Uptime and speed will increase rankings to some degree. Always be careful to optimize you site to load faster, it's useless to pay for a fast host if the site is not optimized for speed.

You will value great customer support when something happens to you site and you need help. Host's reply time will define how much money will you loose.

Yes it does. Page speed / uptime plays a big factor in rankings and I will give you an example. One of my sites was on shared hosting for several years. It was just a small affiliate site so I never really cared much for it so never moved it to one of my VPS's. Anyway, during a consolidation exercise I moved the site to one of my VPS's which experiences very little downtime and is very fast. Rankings went from page 3 to page one within 2 weeks. The VPS was optimized for Wordpress so it was extremely fast. No other changes were made over this period.

Yes and No.

Going with a particular web host won't give you better results just because it's good and popular.
But going with a host that you get significant performance increases to your website will. Performance of your website is the factor here. How fast your page loads to the users of your target location. In theory, going with a host that is local to your users would technically server content much faster than a server located far away.

Performance is the thing that gives you brownie points. No one wants a slow loading website and would end up clicking off quicker than it gets the chance to load. This unfriendly user experience is what Google is not favoring.

Having said that, it may not be your host, it may just the type and level of hosting you have. Going from Shared to VPS or VPS to Dedicated servers, you'll see much better performance and handling of traffic to your site.

If you are talking about "Good Hosting Service" as in the company that is the host then that will not have any SEO affects as a result of this. If you are talking about the servers/equipment that your website/s are hosted on then that can have some positive or negative SEO results mainly because of the load times for your website.

Most of the time though you are not going to get or notice any ranking changes unless you went from a fast loading server to a horribly slow server or vise versa.

Minor changes in load times like fractions of a second are not really going to help or hurt one way or another. If you go from your sites taking 10 seconds to load and move to a new host/server and you site loads in a couple seconds then you'll get some positive SEO benefits.

Yes. Which company you choose to host your website with does have an affect on where your website ranks in search engines. Choosing the right web hosting company doesn't guarantee a rankings boost, but it does mean you avoid the consequences, and they can be significant ones, of choosing the wrong host.

Page speed is one of the 200 parameters google take in consideration when positioning a website so if the server where your site is located is overloaded it might affect your website speed.

Yes. From my experience these affect your site's rankings to a certain extent :

-load speed
-uptime
-IP address
-nameservers
-number of sites hosted on the same IP
-types of sites hosted on the same IP if you are using shared hosts.

These all have a substantial impact but not as big as backlinks and other metrics google and other search engines use to measure rankings

Then from an SEO view would it always be better to just pay for your ow IP so that you are the only one using it?

Yes a dedicated IP is the best option from my experience. You can even host a few sites on it if you got your own vps or server.

You know exactly what is hosted on the IP , as in spam and shady business is kept away from your business.

Good points, thanks.

Since there are more and more people online trying to pull some kind of scam or are spamming I guess it is wise to invest a couple dollars for your own IP. :D

Choosing the right host will not give you a boost in rankings. But choosing the wrong one can cause problems in rankings. Web hosting factors such as uptime/downtime and speed can affect rankings. Monitor your situation carefully.

Web hosting does play a major role in affecting search engine results, having a responsive site is ultimate aim. If you happen to choose a web host which always has downtime issues, then there is no use of opting for such hosting companies. It all starts with hosting.
