What's the best and easiest way to learn web hosting skills as a beginner?

I would hear opinions from hosting experts on this forum.

Hi David,

Get yourself a VPS with either cPanel or Plesk. A solid knowledge of DNS, networking, Linux etc will be a big help but not essential due to how simple modern control panels make managing a server. If you are serious about learning web hosting skills I recommend you learn a commercial linux operating system from the command line ( no control panel )

Web Hosting forums just like this one are a good source for you to learn web hosting and things related to it.
Ask as many questions as you can on these forums, read books on related topics and make friends who are already experienced in this field so that they can help you as and when needed.

To learn web hosting, you can start by using a virtual machine on your computer with a recent Linux distribution and by following some tutorials you can quickly learn how to install a control panel on how to install a software.
And each time you don't know how to don't something, Google will help you to find it easily.
But just by making a copy of your virtual machine before installing someone software, you can use it as a template for practice

David,

May you please clarify what do you mean by saying "web hosting skills"? What do you want to do - to manage a Virtual Hosting environment (Shared Hosting) on a user level with certain control panel or to install OS and manage isolated environments - virtual or physical?

+1 there are so many skills, but you know the sayin "practive makes perfect" so you should buy the service you want to use then try by yourself.
There is a lot of ressources over the internet if you're still lost after doing some researchs, you can ask help on forums asking politely for help but explain everything and use correct language:
Tell you're a beginner,
You have looked over internet,
Explain what service you subscribed,
What you're trying to do,
What has been done,
The error messages sawn.

I'm also new too, however I usually search on Google and some specific hosting forums such as this for about my problems. I try to practice as much as possible, I bought a hosting package to host my own websites and I also learn how to use VPS by script too...cPanel, Plesk, Kloxo, VestaCP, VPSSIM, CentMinMod are some scripts and control panel I've used. I think if you also try hard to learn, you will get your achieve soon.

Good luck to you,

The best thing is to have a small VPS Hosting and then use Google/YouTube or different hosting tutorials for experiment different control panels based on tutorials will help you.

But:
You need to know the basics of Linux/Unix Commands, Networking and DNS Concepts else it wont be worth

Hello,

There are some free hosting provider who still give good service and support with good uptime. I think you should start with free hosting while you are at learning stage. And then you can go for premium hosting to get good performance for your site.

I would hear opinions from hosting experts on this forum.
Please can you be more explicit?
Are you asking how to start your own website?
OR how to start your own web hosting business.

Depending on your level of understanding of the concept of web hosting there is always much help available for you on the forum.

Make virtual machine on your PC/MAC or whatever you have and install linux install web server and play.
Then make 2 more for DNS server. After make one for database. ONE for storage.
Find some free web control panel to down load to play with that.
But if you want more buy VPS and play with that.

Or did you mean something else?
