Personally, I don't like resellers. I recommend just purchasing a vps or dedicated a server and set it up your self.
There is no limits and plus you get more out of it then reseller.

if you are paying $170 a month for Reseller you should stop now. reseller is popular as its very affordable (e.g. we offer unlimited reseller for $13) so you can see how much more than you should be paying you are.
If you have a very large budget then dedicated is the way to go, however consider the fact that for quite a few months you'll have negative balance.

if you are only aiming to sell your own shared hosting and/or maybe reseller VPS/Domain etc you should consider reseller.
In addition for starting off that money can be well spent on ads.

@Marc A
Resellers do have many benefits, specially when you are starting up as its not only the first month payment with VPS or dedicated, you must be able to pay for them until you get enough customers to make the monthly charges.

Something else to consider is the licenses and services that you would have to buy (Cpanel, R1Soft, OnApp, Domain Registrar) in addition to it. as with reseller you dont have any of those pays.

however you are completely right in if the user base and budget is large :)

It really depends, what are your requirements in regards to HDD, Bandwidth, how many cPanel accounts etc.

Please don't hesitate to PM me if you have any additional questions.

Wow! $170/m for a reseller plan? That's way too much! You could your own VPS / Dedicated Server for that price and have more profits!

Actually Its very little amount for me when i was reselling. but there is many people how makes more the 10K a months form hosting reseller. its mainly work for local business. If you have a small web design firm or any internet related office you can sell the reseller hosting to your clients. But in the Internet its very hard to sell now a Days.

If you are just starting, get a reseller account.
Grow with it and build your brand.
Starting a web hosting business is not that easy especially when you start sourcing for clients.

Most hosts who don't have a large budget to spend on advertising will find it difficult getting their first clients.

Patience is the key.

Reselling is not that bad. Think about it, if you want to do it on your own server you will have many costs:
- VPS or dedicated server.
- cpanel license.
- WHMCS license if you need a way to handle your customers.
- Server management and support.

For a very affordable pricing you can get all of this and you only need to focus on getting customers.

I'm always fascinated by how much of a turn-key business hosting is. Scaling is basically built-in for you, and all the tools are already made. Reselling has "ease of use" advantages for scaling and operation, like ventureer explained. And your own has the benefits of control.

If you're paying $13/month, then stop right now as we offer them for $5/month or $50/year. See where this is going!? Haha.

But I agree, $170/month is way too much for Reseller hosting, though I think OP meant $170/year which sounds a lot more reasonable.

Patience is the key.
So true; unless you're EIG!

I have seen a lifetime unlimited super alpha hosting plan for a one-time payment of $5. If its too cheap, it will fail without warning. Kiss your data and clients good bye for good.

Not sure he meant $170/mo... with that much amount.. You can easily run a web hosting company with Dedicated Resources..

To answer your question.. Reseller accounts may range from $5/mo to $50/mo or so on.
