Intriguing question. What really makes an article great? I'm asking that question myself now. I haven't seriously thought of it in the past. I've been actively using Facebook in sharing information, sharing my thoughts, writing my personal comments in "Tag-lish" (Tagalog-English) about something that interests me, and debating sometimes about a particular topic/subject. I have read a lot of articles from bloggers especially about politics of today here in the philippines. But writing an article myself is something I have not tried yet. I love the idea of having written an article myself. But what really makes an article great? An interesting question, indeed. It forces me to try to write something that can make a powerful impact to my reader. But how? Thanks for the insights I am learning here. I still have a lot to learn about article writing or content writing.

"Great" is a subjective term. The more important question is how your article can appeal as "great" to the most number of readers. Basically, an article should contain new information, easy to understand, and most importantly, it should be interesting to your intended audience. You should integrate images or visuals to grab the readers attention, but not too much that it distracts the reading. I think this is a very broad topic, and finding out what your intended audience wants is the best way to know what you need to write that they will also like.

Basically making article great means your target audience has the capacity to understand your topic and the motives you imply. Simply because sometimes everybody doesn't read all words especially if it was to long and paraphrased. Make the article SHORT BUT MEATY!!

A great article grabs attention fast with an engaging opening. It speaks directly to readers using simple, everyday language. By skipping unnecessary jargon, it keeps the main message clear and very easy for anyone to understand right away.

It answers a single core question without adding extra fluff or filler words. Readers receive immediate, practical value that respects their time completely. Focused content helps people solve real problems and quickly learn important new concepts.

An authentic, friendly tone creates real trust with every single reader. Clear formatting and short sentences make the entire piece simple to scan and follow. Readers walk away informed, engaged, and genuinely confident in what they learned.

That works for consumer writing and falls apart on anything technical. People do not arrive at a config guide to be engaged, they arrive because something is already broken, and the first thing they do is scan for the exact error string they are staring at. An opening that paraphrases the error instead of quoting it loses the reader in about two seconds.

The writeups I keep bookmarked all share one thing, which is a section on when the fix does not apply. The version it was tested on, what breaks if you sit behind a proxy, which step to skip on a panel. Nobody writes that unless they ran it themselves and hit the edge, which is also the quickest way to tell a real writeup from one assembled out of four other articles. Does that hold in your niche, or is yours closer to the consumer end?
