Now as for web design companies in new york city have you tried searching google and looking at those companies reviews? Google can be very helpful when it comes to looking for a certain company and to see if it has decent reviews. i did a quick search for you and here is a link with companies in new york city that do web design:

I work with a guy in NY. His name is Carter. WebDesigner 23. He starts at $1k though.
