Which decides loading speed of a website?

Can you guys here tell me which decides loading speed of a website? RAM, Disks, CPUs or some thing else? It is possible to upgrade specs on a shared or a VPS hosting to have better speed?

Hello Maxwell, while all these things like RAM, Disks and CPU's do increase the load times of your website there is also a few other things like website optimization so your pages load a lot faster. Sometimes Server Location helps aswell, so if the user lives in the same country as the server they are more like to load the website faster than someone who lives on the other side of the world. Also certain server configurations do help aswell. There are many guides on the internet to help you optimize things like Apache and nginx to help increase website load times.

Different web servers has different abilities and load times, you can also increase those loads times with server optimization, here is a guide explaining how to optimize an apache webserver:

Hey Maxwell,

How are your site hosted now (shared, VPS, or dedicated)

If you are on a shared hosting plan, there is not much you can do other then making sure your website is properly optimised. If your site is optimised, and still having slow loading times, you will need to discuss this with your host, or find a new host.

You are on a VPS or dedicated, let us know what your configuration is and we can give you better advice.

Also, where is your current hosting location and where does the majority of your traffic come from? (Country).

Wordpress sites are infamous for being slow. The main culprit is plugin load. By checking your website speed at http://tools.pingdom.com/fpt you can review a listing of elements and their load time. You can then see the plugins that are causing the site to drag its feet.

It's kinda a cocktail between them all, if your disk is slow its going to a bit to read the documents. If the network is slow, it's going to take a while to send to the client. Also you just need a CPU for encoding and stuff.

No single factor can be pointed out and said that this is the primary factor that affects the loading speed of the website. The factors that can influence the site speed are server specifications of the server over which the website hosted, Coding of the site, whether the website is on CDN, etc.
