I see by most user's posts and threads that a majority do not use Youtube as a social network. Most of us just use Youtube to post and watch videos - that's it! But the real power of Youtube is it's social networking and marketing aspects.

My question is: Are you using YOUTUBE as a social platform and what have been your most effective interactions or methods to date?

I am not, although at my company we are thinking about introducing YouTube to our SEO. In order for YouTube campaign to work you have to have good videos that will attract people and we're still working on it. (Don't know why but no one wants to become a YT star haha)

Might want to look into hiring talent and having them work that area for the company with the help of your seasoned seo staff. Having the right "chemistry" can really make your channel go viral and do more for the company the all the other seo efforts combined.

For my travel agency, youtube videos have produced great results for the least amount of effort. The possibilities as a social media marketing segment are quite powerful and as varied as the marketing strategies one employs.

Thanks for the tip. We might actually go for it, because we are trying out new ways to reach more potential clients.

How about the "social" aspect of youtube? Would that be just commenting? How does commenting help your channel? Also, subscribing to other channels - how does that help? What other "outreach" has anyone found effective on youtube?

I couldn't estimate how effective youtube can bring to me but It seems to be a good platform for marketing and increase traffic from videos that you are uploading to.

For me, I am using it to learn new knowledge from video courses and marketing my blog by videos.

I'm curious someone here using Youtube to drive traffic to your site? how?

I can tell you that every blog should have a youtube channel and you should use that channel as a video extension or version of your website like some are using facebook groups / pages for their websites. Whatever you're doing now on other social platforms, you should also be doing on youtube.

While many are trying so hard to rank on Google yet they ignore the fact that youtube.com IS Google! You can easily pull ahead of any SERP method using youtube to hop and skip your way to traffic! But as it is with other SEO methods, you really need to educate yourself and care after ALL aspects of your youtube efforts - not just the video content and quality.

I think that the social aspect of YouTube is subscribing (something equal to following or liking a page on Facebook), sharing, commenting. I'm a bit confused about a must have YouTube channel for every blog. Do you upload videos from somewhere or you create videos? What if you're not comfortable with taking videos of yourself for your blog? What is the option then?

Indeed, YouTube is more than just videos. If you scroll down past a video you'll see the comments section. This is where the magic happens. You can get instant targeted traffic from YouTube by posting comments. You can actually post a hyperlink in the comments too. The trick is to not make what you are saying sound spammy. Make it like you are giving people a hot tip, or bring people's attention to something.

Most people missed Gil's point about YouTube being a social platform. Commenting on other videos can get you just as much mileage as posting videos. As a computer virus removal specialist I'll get down with the video poster and even occasionally link to an article I wrote on the subject.

If you post a link you need to post a good argument in the comments not just try this link ,blah.

But comment on other videos as well as post your own.

Yes always use You Tube as social platform. Sharing your product/services related videos into you tube and then follow that products/services related other videos, subscribe the channels are the main helping factors. You also try to share your you tube videos into all major social media sites. Try to share your videos into your blog. Embed your videos into your blog as a widget or as a post. You can also embed your video channels and post into major sites and blog sites. These are the main and basic points to use you tube as social platform.

We're trying to drive user engagement everywhere, so we post our videos there - eg. video guides, how it works etc. People can see how our product looks in practice before buying it which helps them decide. It's of course also a place where we get some feedback.
