Myself I'm not a fan of complex designs either, heavily overloaded design with information can kill my "buying" potential as well.
However, a very basic yet with high esthetics design is the ultimate solution for me. It sells me that the owner's priority is quaility and customer service.

It's a well-known fact that attractive, user-friendly, and intuitive website design increases web traffic and boost sales. I think rarely a customer will be willing to buy a product or service if they come across a website with poor design. When I see a poor design, in most cases I consider the company not very reliable and this makes me unwilling to buy a product from them. So, yes, I think poor web design can easily reduce sales.

It can definitely slow down sales. As a personal preference, design is extremely important for me. If a site doesn't look good or has a somewhat old look then I may be reluctant to use it and trust it.

Indeed, it kills not only your sales rather it boosts your prospects to dive into your competitor's sites. Make sure whatever business you're in. Don't let your visitors confused with so many unnecessary things. Let me remind you of one beautiful quote by French Writer Antoine de Saint-Exupery: "Perfection is achieved, not when there is nothing more to add, but when there is nothing left to take away." So, it is a good idea to keep your site design as simple as possible and with an obvious call to action button.
Believe me or not, I see websites that try to jam too much information into a very confined space. The navigation is also too confusing, and it’s overwhelming for anyone viewing your website. Also, even if you think your design is not too cluttered, there'll always be room for improvement. Try making a simple design and see how traffic flows to your site organically.

Cheers!

Not every time, I have seen many websites with only a simple html page (not attractive) but because the owner has his own identity and good marketing strategies the customer dont think how the website looks, they trust you and buy the services form you.

But if you are a new in any online business and dont have any marketing strategy then the website is the only way to get the customer so in this case it is important to have a good designed (attractive) website.

Sure I agree with you on this point but if there is a good design combine a good service that customers/ visitors trust then it will be more better than one website without a good design.
