Hiya SamZadworny,

My best advice if you want to learn how to do SEO is to start off with learning how to implement a full SEO audit... Its bread and butter stuff that all supposed SEO specialist should be able to do on their own without any fancy software to automate the data.... This covers on page and off page factors in detail... As Google has over 200 ranking factors this report which you develop manually should easily exceed 50 pages plus with quality assessment of a given website and means to improve as well as competition analysis and efforts to forecast how to beat them on the SERPs....

If you are looking for books then I recommend that you find one which covers how to do a detailed SEO audit as you'll be ahead of most people... That said here is a great article on seo audits that can get you started today...

The only way you will ever learn is to actually roll up your sleeves and just get on and do it.. Learn from websites, forums as well as books which can give you a head start.... But ultimately for the advanced stuff you wont find that easily as it is based on people whom are testing and pushing G's algo to the max...

Also realize one important thing... Google is not everything... As soon as you can get your head around getting traffic from other sources the better your online business will be... You can get tons of traffic without ever relying on G ;-) Think of social media, forum participation, ads, video marketing, guest articles and above all building an email list etc etc....

There are so many ways that hopefully you will realize that G is not the internet and that you shouldn't give a sh** about them... Who knows in a few years young entrepreneurs will develop a new search engine out of a garage and onto wall street as did the founders of G!!! Things will indeed change in the coming decade and the status quo will not prevail that much I am sure off..... Monopolies never last long and the web is still very young....

Overall my best advice is to build an approach which encompasses the best of all worlds! Never rely on one single source for your online income...

Finally with SEO the learning never stops... So take it step at a time... and over time with dedication you never know you may get to the stage where you begin formulating your own tests to examine G's algo... as well as others... think about internet marketing, copy writing, increasing conversions... this stuff is not SEO but absolutely critical to learn should you wish to make money online... Indeed there are many moving parts....

Best of luck!

Sid

Here are some basics of on-page SEO that are easy for the beginner to at least get started with.

The main keyword in first and last sentence
The main keyword underlined once in the article
The main keyword italicized once in the article
The main keyword made bold once in the article
One link to another page on your website
One link outbound to an authority site such as wiki, etc.
Keyword density around 1.5%
One H1 header in the article with keyword included
One H2 header in the article with keyword included
One H3 header in the article with keyword included

There is more to it but this process will get you started. It's the same process that plugins such as SEO presser and Yoast my ask you to do for article.

All useless advice. You do not need underline, italicize, and bold your main keyword each one time.

Keyword density is a ridiculous joke. If you pay attention to that, you are doing it wrong.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion of course but I stand by my comments earlier for some basic things to do on blog post. These points come from an SEO plugin that is used on Word Press blogs. I realize they are not the bulk of true SEO but they certainly make the page look nice and do help the page have some kind of format.

It sounds like you too new to SEO and website marketing. I may not recommend you the techniques of SEO as other people, but I think that you should take some SEO training because it'll helps to improve more knowledge about SEO.

If you plan your budget for learning SEO, I recommend Lynda.com because it low cause training. You can go take 10 days trail. You also can find more specific topic about SEO you want to learn with other training courses.

Alternative, ways if you didn't plan any budget for personal development. I think that the free training course about SEO is available on internet. You can using torrent software to download it, but it may lacked of updates.

Lots of SEO companies published tips and tricks about SEO, so you can find those companies and subscribed for their news latter thus you get update about what you want to learn...

thanks, I hope it helps..
