Does link exchange still work for SEO?

Hi,
I want to know link exchange still work for SEO or not? If I do it, I need to limit number of external links on my site?

I would say no it doesn't work anymore. What google is looking for now is good quality content with good keywords. If your content is engaging and it helps the reader then your post or pages will get shared, liked and tweeted thus giving you traffic to your site. Comments and engagement with your readers helps as well.

It still works, but not all of the links. Make sure your links are placed on a page that is regularly getting traffic and shared online. Find bloggers who are always sending their visitors to the resource page.

If the page doesn't get any traffic then it won't have much effect. Sidebar and footer link exchanges are a waste of time, those don't have a lot of power. However link exchanges are better than nothing so if you can get it then go for it.

But at the end of the day it really depends on the niche and competition, in some niches you can rank well by using link exchanges if the competition doesn't have a lot of strong links. So check your competition and find out where they are getting their links then evaluate from there.

Yes, you can still get benefits from link exchanges, but you should not do two way link exchanges as google doesn't like it at all, you should do three way or four way link exchanges and also exchange links with related websites/blogs.

The Link Exchange technique is actually exists, but try to exchange your website link to your website related and high page ranked websites. Also, it will be recommended to perform this technique in very low quantity.

Link exchanges only works if:

1) You are getting them from an authoritative site/web page with good MOZ DA, Majestic CF/TF factors etc...

2) Do NOT reciprocate the links on the same resources... As that is an obvious footprint for gaming the serps... e.g. Site A > Site B and Site B > Site A.... Also avoid link wheels e.g. Site A > Site B > Site C > Site A as that too is easy to catch out... The simple approach is to keep the links separate e.g. Site A > Site B and Site C > Site A - Where Site B and C do not link together!
