a lead is someone you have spoken to about your business (HOT) or wish to speak to (COLD)... a sale is someone who purchases your product... thus you wish to convert leads into sales :)

Lead: A potential customer for your product or service. In the online world a lead will usually be someone who has signed up to your list, social media or requested more information from you.

When you convert the lead then a sale has taken place.

Lead is a potential sales contact. They are yet to purchase.
Sales is lead have been converted into sales. They have purchased.

A lead is a person with contact information that is somehow associated (first, second, or third degree) to the organization or person that will be looking to make a purchase.
A lead is basically a person (with contact information) that will help you create the opportunity. Bottom line is an opportunity is a deal that you have the possibility (0-99%) that you can close.

There is a great misconception on this. Many businesses don't know how to keep existent clients (sales) or how to convert Leads into sales. For that CTA (Call-to-Action) has to be very well implemented to your website. Attention ratio also has to be very low in order to have a high CTA. If you haven't paid attention to that already well do it, because you are losing time and money.

To understand what I am saying just Google for something random from B2B area they usually do the worst mistakes and see how they lose clients.

Instead having the forms clear they crowd their pages making customers very dizzy when they land there. Huge mistake!!

In my point of view, Lead is getting enquiry and sale is use that enquiry to sell our products or business to the clients. For eg. Pepagora is the b2b business portal that generate enquiries for a company that is lead. And that company use the opportunity and sell their products to that customer is sale.

There is a difference between ‘A Lead' and ‘A Sale' in real life and online.

In CPA (cost per action), affiliate marketing and e-commerce, ‘lead' and ‘sale' are types of ‘actions' (as in, cost per Action). CPA is quite simple: you get paid when your visitors click on the affiliate link and perform a needed action. Actions such as filling out the form, submitting email or a zip, signing up for a free trial, starting a subscription service will be counted as a Lead and actually buying something, where money exchange was made, is a Sale. Thus, actions that do not include a sale are called ‘leads' and a sale is a ‘sale' everywhere ;)

The sale is about Purchasing Through Your Affiliate.
Lead is When Some 1 Take Free trial Through Your Affiliate.

In business terms, a lead can be defined as a business or a person that is interested in doing business with you or is going to make a purchase. On the other hand a sale is a confirmed business transaction between two parties whereby some product has been sold or service rendered for money.
