What are the advantages of using CSS Sprites in web design?

Hello,

Can you show me what are the advantages of using CSS Sprites in web design?

I know if I use this technique then its file size is bigger than normal images but It will reduce number of HTTP requests needed to render a webpage thus it increase page speed for website very much.

what is your opinion?

Sprite is very useful image format which is used to mention many images as background with a single image. So it will reduces the number of images and size.
