I would advise WordPress.
1. Thousands of free themes for eCommerce. It takes literally some clicks to change appearance of your webstore totally.
2. Perfect for entrance level. User-friendly interface rules.
3. A lot of useful plugins for eCommerce.
Among WP plugins for eCommerce the most popular is Woo Commerce but sometimes it is reasonable to find something less mainstream. :) Take a look here.

You can create an online store using CMS like WordPress else using php scripts.
When you go with CMS, its simple to start the site, but you need to sticks with the features which already available and face difficulty when you move for future enhancement.

If you prefer php scripts, you will feel more flexible to change according to your requirement.
Also now a days you can start online shop in cost effective manner by getting clone scripts like etsy clone.

I have used Magento, WooCommerce and shopify. I would personally use shopify for my next web store. Or a wordpress one with the WooCommerce plugin.
