my first domain is from 2001.
i´ve currently moving some com´s domains from OVh to namesilo.
This is taking already 8 days to transfer, domain unblocked, ready to transfer.
OVH says its unloked and ready to transfer. This usually only took the time to nameservers to propagate, used to be done in the same day.
rules have changed ?

It used to be 24 hours to 3 days, so I'd be as confused as you. I wonder if it depends on each registrar.

Wow, having a domain from 2001 is impressive!

As for the transfer delays, you're right that it used to be quicker, but things have changed a bit recently. Domain transfers, especially between registrars, can sometimes take up to 5-7 days depending on the registry's policies. It sounds like OVH has already unlocked the domain, which is a good first step, but the actual transfer process can still take some time to finalize. longer than it used to, unfortunately.

It might be worth double-checking that you’ve entered the correct authorization code (Auth Code) and that both registrars have everything in place. If everything looks good, you might just be stuck waiting for the process to finish up. Patience is key here, though if it stretches beyond 10 days, I’d recommend contacting both registrars again for updates.

Transfers have become a little more regulated in recent years to prevent domain hijacking, which is why it can take longer now.

Domain transfer rules have indeed evolved over the years, introducing stricter security protocols to prevent unauthorized transfers. Previously, transfers were often quick, sometimes completed within a day after unlocking the domain and initiating the request. Now, registrars follow more rigorous processes, which can extend the transfer time to 5-7 days, depending on various factors like the specific registrar’s internal processes and ICANN’s (Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers) policies.

The delay can occur due to several reasons, such as awaiting confirmation from the losing registrar (OVH, in this case), or additional checks being enforced as part of security measures. While OVH might state that the domain is unlocked and ready to transfer, some registrars use the full allotted transfer window to prevent hijacking attempts. If the process is taking longer than expected (more than 8 days), it’s recommended to reach out to both OVH and NameSilo to check for any issues on their end. You could also ensure that no additional confirmation emails are required from you to finalize the transfer.

Yes, domain transfer rules have changed. Transfers now can take up to 5-7 days due to new security protocols, but if it's taking longer, you may want to check with both registrars for any delays. Glad it's all sorted now.

thanks.
This is quite relevant when expiration date is nearby. Some rules like no transfer on the last 30 days etc apply.
For these 02 domains, i´ve enjoyed a cool deal from nameliso that have offered a 01 year extension, so im good till 2026 !

While OVH has confirmed that the domain is unlocked and ready for transfer, it might be helpful to also check with Namesilo to ensure they've received the transfer request properly.
