Hi there

Apologies for repeating any previous queries. The world of hosting has changed somewhat since I first had my business sites hosted on what I imagine was a share of some Microsoft server somewhere. No idea what it was. You don't need to

There are 4 subforums here - dedicated, cloud, VPS and reseller

All I really need is a tiny share of a shared server of some description with a virtual web server, basic console and similar email (few mailboxes)

The niceties about what kind of service it is are irrelevant to me. Its obviously not dedicated

Can you advise which forum I should discuss. My current provider claims to be a cloud provider and provides what appear to be VPS solutions

All I am looking for is the simplest possible web and email hosting solution

A few basic HTML pages, a few mailboxes with webmail/IMAP and a reasonably easy to use console

Thanks

Go for a simple web hosting/shared hosting plan by HostGator India. They have Windows servers so I think it will work for you. Where are you located btw? I can suggest another brand too.

Hi thanks

I am thinking I may have to go with Windows servers, even if I cant get hosting in my state (a preference). I am located in Australia. But the nature of my business, my clients, my projects and the federal system makes local State hosting preferable to make life easier

Thanks D

From wide range of different web hosting options you can select as per your choice and requirement.

Reseller hosting is easier than other web hosting platforms, in the sense that, it is less technical. The basic work of the reseller's is to communicate and interact with the customers but all technical and infrastructural problems are tackled by the data center manager and the server provider. The crux of the reseller web hosting is the ability to advertise and market a site or a product online. Though the returns are a bit slow, gradually the reseller hosting service business earns the profits, since hosting is a pre requisite to survive in the cyber age today.

There are a number of advantages of reseller web services. The cost involved in this host set up is lesser than other shared hosting services. The best part is the high rate of inventory that a reseller web host gets. The reseller web service makes it more flexible than other shared hosting forums. There is ample time to concentrate on other work, rather than remaining glued to the same host service. This flexibility automatically leads to better management of more websites and in turn, leads to a solid client base.

Thankyou

The problem I am having with reseller hosting is that most of the resellers seem to be selling the same product here

Also, they tend (so far) to put too much requirement on the client (me) to invest valuable time and skills into managing my very basic setup

I may end up going with a reseller option though. There are not many backend data centres to choose from though

Thanks for the tip on cPanel or Plesk

I am having a few issues with a Plesk managed service. I do not know if the problem is my hosting company or Plesk or some other part of their platform. Something is highly unreliable somewhere

I may have to investigate cPanel provided its not complex and everything is setup by the reseller. I like to spend on average no time at all managing my sites and email services

Thanks for all the replies so far. I think in the past what I had was shared hosting by company that fully managed their own servers. The world has changed a bit. There are many VPS options but my server admin days (and motivation) are long in the past for very simple web and email

Thanks everyone

Choosing a web hosting option is a significant decision if you run a business on the internet because it makes it easy for your target audience to look through your site. You must find something that is trustworthy. A reputable service will make it easy for online users to download, browse and update information. It is not easy to make a choice because there are numerous choices to select from. Most of the providers offer additional services because they have access to better technologies at the moment. It is also possible to save when you are choosing a service by taking advantage of the various coupons that are available.

Price is also an vital factor to keep in mind when you are making a choice. Associate several options to regulate which one will offer you upright quality services at a reasonable cost. Most of the foremost providers offer expensive services therefore you may have to compare the features before you settle on a specific one.

The support and security that is offered by a provider also matters when you are making a choice.

Hi. Thankyou. I've had basic hosting for almost 20 years. Just recently been let down by a new provider so trying to find something new. I have minimal requirements. Ideally the same provider. Very simple few pages of HTML, a few mailboxes with aliases and catchall, DNS. Cheap and reliable and almost no management requirement for me at all if possible. I don't understand why it's so hard to find

If you want to have a successful online business, you need to have a good quality web hosting plan. If you are unsure of the right hosting for you, here are some popular options to choose from:

Shared website hosting

Since this option is shared, it means that the resources are shared which makes it cost effective compared to other options. This option also ensures that the users are able to benefit from the expertise of the highly professional technical support team working for the hosting company.

Dedicated hosting

In this option, the server is entirely devoted to your site; therefore, you have more server resources. Since more resources are available, this option tends to be expensive. Although, it's expensive, this option allows you full control of the server; therefore, you are able to manage all the aspects of your site.

Virtual private server hosting

This option is a cross between shared hosting and dedicated hosting. The option is characterized by a dedicated server that is shared by multiple users. Although, different users share the server resources, the server space is usually strictly divided into given portions so that each portion is dedicated to a given website.

These are the most common hosting options available to you. Before you settle on a given option, you should first thoroughly analyze its pros and cons.

Hi thanks for the answer and the description of the options and what they offer

I've been in .com hosting and management on and off for 20 years with a successful online presence of my own for 17+ years
Sometime over those 17+ years the world changed and its very difficult to find the kind of fully managed professional web and email service, reliable with a nice to use console - which frees you up to do your business

As for a successful web site/web presence if you look me up in Google I have most of the top links in Google since my business started almost 20 years ago

As for options what I always used to have was essentially a managed shared server of some kind) which suited me fine

And as a small sole-trader business the web/email management administration is usually something you spend a small amount of time setting up then can leave for years on end sometimes with minimal administration required

Choosing from various hosting options is completely based on your website needs. Before choosing your hosting, know about the basic hosting types.

Shared hosting: Ideal for small business websites that gets less traffic. Cheapest and most affordable type of hosting. But here you need to share the website resources with other websites.

VPS hosting: Next level to shared hosting in terms of both performance and price. In VPS hosting, though your website is hosted in a shared server, you will be provided the some dedicated resources for your website.

Dedicated Server hosting
: You can solely own a server for a tenure. In dedicated server hosting, you get the complete control of your server. Ideal for large business websites that attracts more traffic and requires more resources.
