WordPress has the latest update to version 5.0, in this version the default WordPress editor has wholly changed and brought a different interface.
However, many users feel strange and even quite uncomfortable with the new interface of this WordPress, version editor.

Some features of the new WordPress editor
Some significant changes have come to the editing experience in WordPress. The block-based editor is the first step towards an exciting new future with a streamlined editing experience across the web.
  • More flexible with the display of content
  • Insert any multimedia and auto-embedded
  • Each content is in a separate block and easily controlled by mouse or keyboard
  • The blocks available by default have more than: paragraphs, titles, preformatted text, quotes, images, collections, cover art, video, audio, columns with nested blocks, files, code, etc
The blocks can also be reused, and many people can easily switch from one type to another. This new editing experience offers a more consistent approach to design and content.

How to convert a WordPress editor to an old version like before
So now we want to convert the WordPress editor to the old version as before, how to do?
Thankfully WordPress has just released a plugin for you to do that, this plugin is called Classic Editor
After downloading this plugin and install, then you go to Setting -> Writing will see the following

Here you will see 2 new options.

  • Classic Editor: Old editor
  • Block Editor: New editor
Your task is to choose one of the two options above to get the old or new editor.

Good luck!

Like you, I'm not a huge fan of the new Gutenberg editor either especially as I have a few plugins that don't seem to work too well with the new editor. Like suggested above, I've downloaded the classic editor plugin and everything is fine now.

Indeed, many people prefer keeping the Classic editor.

You can do that with just a few clicks by installing and activating the classic editor plugin (available on https://wordpress.org/plugins/classic-editor/ ). When you go to ‘’Settings’’ click on ‘’Writing’’, and then, you’ll see the ‘’Classic editor settings’’. There you have 2 options:
  • To replace the Gutenberg editor with the Classic editor
  • To use the Gutenberg editor by default and include optional links back to the Classic editor.

Then just click on the ‘’Save changes’’ button
Now, in the ‘’Posts’’ menu, you will see a new link ‘’Add new (Classic)’’, which will allow you to create new posts using the Classic editor.

Another option is to use the TinyMCE Advanced plugin (available on https://wordpress.org/plugins/tinymce-advanced/ ) And then, choose from the advanced options to replace the Block editor with the Classic editor

From Navigation pane, hover your mouse on the Appearance option and select Themes
select any Child Theme and Activate it. After activating click on the Editor option from the Navigation pane
From the Editor click on the Theme Functions option located under the Theme Files navigation pane
Now scroll all the way down in the PHP code and add this command line listed below to disable the Gutenberg Editor completely: add_filter(‘use_block_editor_for_post’, ‘__return_false’);
After adding the above line in the theme function click on the Update File button to apply changes to the code. Now you can check that you will be only allowed to use Classic Editor.
