For someone that is recently in this job and has a crew that were mostly amateurs with school and home experience, would you recommend getting premium DNS ?

I've read and discussed it with them, since it seems that the price is not that big according to what I read.

What options are available in premium that a ''basic'' one does not have ?

I've read conflicting reports on is it worth to get this these days.

In short...Yes.
Essentially a premium DNS has infrastructure to provide your DNS records to your visitors on a global scale. So when a visitor looks up your site, the DNS info is offered from a local server instead of a single location nameserver of your host. This reduces the seek time and helps deliver your site faster.

Having said that, if you have a fairly local site with local visitors then it's not so essential. Eg. If you host is in the UK, and so are your visitors then they will get fast seek times anyway, so premium DNS may not be so useful.

If your on a budget, you can use cloudflares free DNS, which is very good.

It is weird since some of us had a thought that premium should go with after some time.
Exactly, those kind of things like records for our visitors will be useful.
For beginners a thing like speed is crucial until we get our names out there.
But still, building a local network first should a priority before global, since you want to succeed on your own ground first.
Thank you for your detailed answer, will take it in consideration.

With a crew that is amateurs, I strongly advise you to get premium DNS, you can use features like load balancing or failover and it will allow maximum uptime for your website. Besides premium DNS will provide you with a high level of security, ensuring your website and web application are safe.

Of course "premium" ones are always better because it will give you better features over free versions but in this case, you can use free DNS services like Cloudflare because it is similar to premium DNS.

It was maybe needed few years ago, but in my opinion it's not the case anymore. There are several free DNS hosting services like Cloudflare, DigitalOcean or Linode, which provide the same level of service than Premium DNS offers (if it's not a better level ).
Currently, Cloudflare is one of the biggest DNS service available, with the fastest DNS propagation around the world and it require only few minutes to add a domain and use Cloudflare nameservers instead of your domain registar's nameservers

I would say yes. According to our tests, you can get a speed boost and more security with premium global anycast DNS like cloudns.net

Is it also helping improving loading speed for a website if I used a premium dns? I am using free option but if it can help, I will try to switch to paid/premium options.

it won't speed up the loading of the website itself has this is handled by the server on which your website is. But it will help finding the domain name on the internet. Also with premium DNS you don't have to wait 24-48 hours for the propagation, it is almost instant.

What do you mean by

DNS propagation is almost instantly with Cloudflare, and it doesn't require to pay for it.
