What is addon domain and how is it used.

What is the purpose of it and if you can give me a nice tutorial about it I would be grateful.

When you sign-up to hosting you get a space to direct your domain name to. So eg domain.com will point to public_html. That is your main domain.

An add-on domain(if your hosting package allows it), let's you add another domain to the hosting, where it will create a folder within the existing hosting for domains2.com to direct to.
If you make the domains2.com folder within public_html then it can still be access from domain.con.

This allows you to host several of your own sites on the same hosting.
I wouldn't recommend large sites or dynamic sites to be hosted this way, as if one becomes compromised then all domains on that hosting can be compromised.
So it's ideal for small personal sites or static sites.

An Addon domain is an additional domain that can be created from within your control panel and is a great way where you can host more than one website at a time from one hosting account. This is a unique and new website hosted in a new folder on your account so that you can host several domains from one control panel. For example, if you have your own two different sites you can host both domains from your one hosting account.

Addon Domain is the one of features which you can use the same hosting package for multiple websites.
When you add Addon Domain, you can use that domain as a separate website within the same hosting account.
And it can be easy converting to a new account when needed if you use WHM/cPanel.

An addon domain is a fully functional domain that can be created from within your control panel. It is like having multiple hosting packages all within one control panel. The same way you create email addresses, forwarders, and more for your primary domain, you can do the same for your secondary domain. In other words, it's an additional domain you can host within a given account along with your primary domain. However, the files and server are the same.
How an Addon Domain Works
When creating an add-on domain, three things happen:

a folder is created in the public_html directory
a subdomain is created for the primary domain and attached to the new folder
the new domain name is associated with the subdomain

This all happens automatically when an addon domain is assigned to an account. There is no need for further action other than uploading content to the addon domain.

Just a quick follow up.
I seen many many many offers that only acept 1 website , or 3 websites ( 2 as addon domains ).
Some other offers accept unlimited number of addon-domains.
Thus my question, i imagine one limites the numbers of addon in order to reduce the server load right ?
Not other reason since its just a "directory" question on the hosting server.
