How true is it that on your first subscription to a web hosting, they will offer you a lot of discounts, and then on your renewal, they will be asking for a much higher hosting package price as high as $150. Did you encounter such web hosting costs?

Thats crazy, im only guessing larger companies can get away with that kind of pratice. I guess there is no real problem however if it is clear when intial sign up is taking place.

Before sign-up you should check that details of renewal cost. This is one of the strategy used by many of the web hosting provider to attract the customers. That is why it is always suggested that before ordering the hosting service, you should study whole policies, renew costing, support cost, other service charges. You should read proper terms of conditions before sing-up.

You should go through the review of the web hosting service provider.

When ever you sign up for any kind of webhosting service whether it be VPS or dedicated hosting and you recieve a discount ask if it carries on in your renewals or if its a 1 time discount, most webhosting companies have websites that allow you to use a l live chat, thats probably the easiest way to ask and get an answer quickly.

Larger webhosting companies do that because once they have your website with them, they make it a huge chore to actually migrate domains to actually change providers, so they almost force you to stay with them. Disregarding tickets, beating around the bush, etc etc. The smaller providers can't afford to do that because they need customer retention to grow, so they don't pull "promotions" like that. That's why I tend to stay with providers that are much smaller and unknown and give a straight price.

When I was first searching for a Hosting provider for my first website years ago I found the usual ones: Hostgator, GoDaddy, Bluehost. I ended up paying 130 USD for a simple shared hosting package for 3 years at Bluehost. With some extra research, I obviously cancelled it. But the only reason I was able to get a refund is because I actually found someone who had direct access to the manager.
It was impossible to get into contact with anyone and their servers were slow.
I tried multiple times via their chat but it was impossible.
That domain is still there after years...
Long story short, these big companies are all terrible...

Different providers, have different system of discounts. Usually when you use a promotional code or a coupon it is a one time thing and for the renewal normal price will be used. It is recommended to ask about the discount before buying the first time. If you do not receive the answer it is a good indication that buying services from this provider might be a bad idea.

That's how they usually bait customers. Hence, it will be better for you to ask before you sign up with them. As what others had mentioned, this is probably a big company. You should try going with SME companies. As the company is small, you'll get the support you need.

This is true for some hosting providers. I was able to work with a hosting company which is based in Australia and you can only get discounts if you pay longer like 1 yr and get huge discount if you go for 5-10 years. The offer was very tempting though and lots of customers are taking the bait.
