I am being offered a windows server 2012 r2 with low price and I am going to take one but I need to make sure it is clean for virus and malware. I would like to hear your experience what is the best antivirus for windows server 2012 r2?

You may check trendmicro [ http://apac.trendmicro.com/apac/sma...services/windows-server-essentials/index.html ]. I have personally did not try it, but heard good words from my colleagues.

no doubt trend micro is one of the best Antivirus , however it causes high resource usages on the server. Try McAffe and it should work.

You don't need another antivirus than windows defender, just keep your server up-to-date and make sure to enable all proper rules with the Firewall.
And before installing an app, use virustotal.com to scan it.
