Managed VPS hosting saves your time, reduce the work as hosting provider used to take care of your VPS. It will balance the responsibility of you as well as hosting provider. In managed VPS, hosting provider as well as you will have the full control on your server. Safe side is, well technical professional will handle your server and all task related to it. Security is the main aspect which will be handheld by them.

Here are some of the responsibility which will be handled by the hosting provider of managed VPS -

    1. Operating system installation and re-installation
    2. Software updates, server performance monitoring
    3. Security checkups and upgrade
    4. Server monitoring
    5. Free administration for every query

The term "managed VPS" or server is different by each provider. There are not any rules, they have to follow. Therefore you have to read their services description, TOS and ask themself what the management service includes.

Usually, hosters don't manage the websites, if you need such service you should ask your provider. Some hosters can help you to change PHP version and other things, but for ex. they will not update website engine.

    hi,

some hosting companies offer full support for their clients. This is very useful because you can devote to your website and not thinking about security update ... software update, hdd backups ....

I have full managed vps at vpswebserver company and this company says:

We offer support with live chat, e-mail, and ticket support system. We provide full 24/7 help desk support for all software that comes installed on your VPS server. This includes the OS and control panel, as well as all 3rd party software you use!. Additionally, we provide proactive security updates to ensure your server is always secure. What makes us really different and better than others is that we have team of programmers to help you. We have experts in PHP/MySql, SQL Server, .NET and Java (Level 2 support).

This is a joke, isn't? Just an example - I would like to see, how they support e.g. CS-Cart... or something else what is't that popular like WP, Joomla some free e-commerce scripts etc.

I have to agree with isix here in that supporting all 3rd party software that you use is simply impossible for any provider. Of course, they should be able to support OS and control panel related issues.

Difference between managed server and unmanaged server is as below:

Managed Server: Hosting provider and you both will have access to your servers. Here server security is managed by hosting provider and your application is manged from your end.

Unmanaged Servers: Here you have to manage both your server security and application, as hosting provider will not have any access to your server to manage anything for you.

Rather than going away your host utterly accountable for running your hosting service (as with shared internet hosting) or taking complete management yourself (as with a fervent server), managed VPS hosting takes away some of your responsibility, going away long and sophisticated server management to your VPS hosting
