I will be a bit surprising if I can know any web hosting companies are offering 12 dollars a year for a shared hosting package. It is such a cheap price and I don't know if they can provide quality services and good support?

It depends on the plan specifications, I do 10GB Space for 10 websites at £15 Per Year for example.

Yes everyone always wanted cheap web hosting services but high quality service. In the past I used shared hosting from Hostgator $10 / month because I have no choice and didn't know any shared hosting companies offered under $8 / month for a shared hosting plan.

It's quite common for hosts to offer such cheap starter plans to attract more customers that are sensitive to price. Most people are not sure about spending lots of money on the services that they haven't checked for themselves, especially shared hosting so they like to get some sort of test plans, (if the host offers trial plan) they aim for cheapest plans. This way they can test if hosts are up to the task and deliver services that they are usually bragging about.

Just remember, cheaper price often means cheaper service.

Most of the time when I hear of hosts shutting down in the middle of the night, or see hosting companies for sale, it's the cheap ~$1/mo hosts.

Like any business, your prices must be enough to cover expenses and make a profit, or you won't be in business for very long!

That price is a bit unrealistic if they offer you anything more than 1GB / 500MB SSD. Unless they are using incredible outdated hardware, I cannot imagine how they can turn a profit when you have to factor in any hardware upgrades / replacement, licensing fees, bandwidth costs, staff costs etc.. If you use a host with those kinds of prices, id strongly suggest you backup your website every day at the very minimum.

From my experience, that business model will simply not last for any serious length of time, and is one of the problems with the industry today.

On the part of people selling hosting, I think it's a bad marketing move. Instead, it's better to wait until you have more credibility. However, who knows, if your website and ads are professional enough, then it might work. I cannot really say absolutely. Myself, I've fallen into that trap, but bascially it's been a desert with no buyers. However, then again, I haven't really bought a professional theme or ads, instead just advertising via threads on my own forum.

In all honesty 12$ a year is not even that cheap compared to today standards. If the plan is not offering some over the top features or just seems too good to be true, chances are u might get decent service afterall.

I feel like offering web hosting under $10 per year will become very stressful in the long run, as you will have clients with not too much return and you will have to provide support at a cost. Unless of course, if you are a big provider and costs are not an issue then this would obviously not be an issue unless if they oversell.

It's possible to find, and to be honest some websites don't even need close to 1GB for website and a few email's.
We have plumbers, gardeners, coffee shops that use budget plans and for them works really well. Absolutely no problems. The only calls/support we get is when they need a new email address and we are always happy to assist them. No need to buy a Ferrari when all you need is a FIAT.
Good luck with your search and your new provider.

The problem is competition, with a little cheating[/B :boxing:]. Why sell a huge packages when you can sell bite size piece easier. You can sell more hosting, than what you would with the same package everyone's selling. The problem is to balance all of it with proper management. Most host who now sell that service are either not focus on general hosting but vps ,dedicated servers or even offering different services add that as a side piece with little configuration ability.

Charging that little is beyond a joke. 0.60 a month + transaction fees + taxes. They would be making about 0.25 a month per customer, you could make more money holding out a cup in the street.

As others have said so many people shop on price then expect a fast service with 99% uptime and really great support. If people even thought for a moment about the running costs of a hosting provider they would know this is nothing but a scam.

12$ per year is extremely cheap. And it can be good if you are on your own with some technical knowledge. But at that price you can't really demand technical support. I mean 12$ a year is so low that you can't even buy burger for a year at that price. Honestly any host that is offering such cheap price in 2017, is self extorting with such offer. I would say that better go with their higher priced premium plans and then you can demand quality out of them.

This is the current state of the market, prices have been driven so low from all the resellers and some providers who are nothing but scams. Also expensive hosts can be trash and use the price to appeal to those who think more cost must mean better service and then let down by the support/service. It's a minefield out there for hosting customers.

I don't think that's the case. I know EIG hosting has low prices than competition. And I have extremely bad experience with their Arvixe, Hostgator and Bluehost packages. Customer support is so bad that I'd pay 20$ more for some other service than going for EIG hosting. So cost is not the thing I'd go for. 12$ per year is way too low to be honest. I'd not trust their customer service and their uptime at this low rate.

actually you can get shared hosting for less than $12 in a year. Namecheap offers shared hosting gor $9.88 a year. However, this is just for the first yearm, you will have to pay $29 in gthe second year. Good thing about namecheap shared hosting package is you can host multiple sites in one hosting package.

If you're low on budget then start with shared hosting but once you get revenue, you should move to a dedicated hosting, it's for your performance and better for your security. That doesn't mean that your site performance will decrease on shared hosting, you might not even notice a difference when you move to a dedicated one

For that price I wouldn't expect high quality services and that's OK, I could use it for less important projects. What I'm always afraid of is some hidden expenses the web hosting company might add during the year.

I think this is a rather too cheap price, but you can look for some coupon codes and deals and you may find some decent plan for this budget. The other option is to purchase a hosting for longer period of time and to get such big discount. But, probably this period will be 2 or 3 years.
