How to sell websites to local businesses?

Hi website owners,

I need some creative ideas to sell web design service to local business that do not have websites yet.

Here are my ideas that I collected from some sources

- Cold Call / Direct mail.
- Show them a custom Demo site.
- Free design of business card.
- Offer free Listing in an online local business directory.
- Show their competitors sites.
- Provide money back guarantee.
- Offer free site but paid hosting.


Do you have any ideas that is not listed above and they are better?

The best one I have come across is to simply ask them upfront, in person is best however phone them if thats not possible. I would possibly stay away from emails/direct mail as a lot of the time its ignored.

Emails and calls are usually ignored and soon as the company understand that is someone trying to sale something they just close/drop the call.
Best way is going directly, and explain why you are visiting them. This generally have a very good end :)

almost all the solutions you have mentioned above are argument you should use in business meeting with the website owner, I think it would be best to address their costumers and offer a free solution to an existing problem, say for example your target is car rental, you may setup a yellow page website that lists all the rental car business in the area or the city, this way, you might even get offers.

Give them the proofs that you are offering the service for really cheap price. Show thenm how much other people are charing for the same service.
Show them how good you are. Give them the list of websites that you have designed.
You can also attract customers by giving benefits such as free domain or hosting servive for a limited time.

The best way is to go talk to them face to face because if you call them or email them then most likely you will be ignored or they will hang up on you.
