Looks like the rules are pretty strict around here. I know that's good for the board on the whole because then there's less spam and crap posts, meaning less garbage, the search engines see serious posts, send more traffic as the forum becomes a definitive authority.
However, had I known that you can only have one username, I probably would've selected one of my other business websites.
I won't kid you, I am a straight-shooter, I am a reseller. I started reselling web hosting in order to enhance my client's experience with a decent product while expanding my web design business. I soon realized that I needed to also offer domain name registrations along with my web hosting for two very important reasons:
1) The clients would register a domain name and sign-up for hosting all at the same time, so I wound-up missing out, only hosting my own site(s).
2) Verisign was playing games with me, making me jump through hoops just to get my brand and domain name registration straightened out. I was constantly on the phone with Indians that couldn't speak or understand English well at all, and after years of this struggle, and getting shafted on registration renewal fees, I had to take control of my domain names or possibly loose them (they refused to update my company name, which was wrong and clearly a violation of ICANN registration policies).
I would never wish that brand/domain name nightmare on my worst enemy.
Anyway, I ran a few groups and some forums myself, though I never graduated to the vBulletin software (though I always wanted to, I simply couldn't afford it without showing ads on the site, and I hate spam myself). I did wind-up with quite a few web design and development buddies in the industry and for a few of those without their own internet business services solutions I wound-up with a pretty nice customer base to get started.
I am very big on branding, Trademarks, other marks, and intellectual properties. I studied this in-depth while taking arts and graphic design in College. As a result, I have been designing and developing brands since a while after becoming a registrar. This speculation, investment, development, and sometimes aftermarket sale business is often referred to as "Domaining", so yes, I wound-up becoming a Domainer, as well.
But I was constantly designing websites where the client would change stuff and make it look bad, or simply fail, so my portfolio of work never grew. This was aggrevating, so I started simply working for myself. I still design sites, but now I am concentrating on the marketing of my various sites and endeavours that I made for myself while I also try to hone my skills at designing fonts (and webfonts). My plan is to get good enough to sell fonts, photos and my graphic arts as digital products and bundles.
Admittedly, this transition to digital goods is taking a lot longer than I would like, I seem to always have a new website/marketing project I want to get done. But I do have lots of freeware ready to go if I can just get caught-up and put the rest of it online (some is, but I won't link to it here, against the rules).
I have a freeware/shareware TTF/OTF font repository online, a bunch of my font distribution archives are online with that collection from artists and foundries worldwide, while some of my other fonts still need to be downloaded from various spots, documented, archived, and then uploaded and added to my font repository.
I have plans to add a gallery site of Public Domain and CC0 photography, graphic images, and video, but eventually once I get good enough, I hope to start a whole new stock photo/art/video site and sell fonts and designs there as well (when and if I can).
I love American motorcycles, old pickup trucks and fast cars. I thoroughly enjoy going to the football games with my son or watching the Vikings (NFL) or Storm (IFL) on TV.
My son is a very gifted, creative and happy kid that is on the debate team. Right now, he is a sophmore in High School and competing at the Debate Nationals in Alabama. We are very proud of him.
My wife teaches kids and college students how to play the violin and viola. She does quite well, she's a great teacher and her kids love her despite her Polish accent.
I like to help and give back to the internet when and where I can. Maybe I can assist with certain things. We'll see how much spare time I have.
