Benefits of Using a Virtual Private Server or dedicated

hello,

I know It is very important to choose a proper web hosting plan ...I have a website that has a 2500 - 5000 visitors daily.

My problem is when at the same time come large number of visitors online, then my wordpress site is slow ...

I used shared hosting, but it is now time to move on ... My next step is vps or dedicated server.

Please recommendations and explanation of benefits....

This depend on your budget, since using a dedicated server is always better instead of vps. However using vps is nothing bad, you will save some money. Main reason is, you need to optimise your website. If you do not optimise your website nothing will help you to get your site faster.

I would say go with a VPS since that upgrade will be quite a step up from shared hosting. Dedicated server might be more power than you need, however if you find in the near future you are out-growing your VPS account then you need to move again. A good web hosting provider should be able to help you with this, however you still need to make the move which can be a bit of a headache... The main reason why a VPS would be better than a dedicated server is scalability. You can scale up a VPS with a single click, opposed to a dedicated server where you'll need to physically upgrade the actual server, which may cause downtime and it may take up a lot more time and effort.

VPS is always better.

I would recommend to go on a VPS server but not just any VPS server. You need a strong VPS servers with available resources.

With your current setup you will be resource limited on a shared hosting account.

To put in simple terms, it's your own server with no resource limits of other users on it. I think at 5k max daily visitors a small VPS would be ideal. Maybe 1 core 4GB RAM. You can upgrade a VPS as needed.

As others mentioned a VPS would be an ideal solution to your problem, look for scalable solutions since that you can always upgrade or downgrade depending on your current needs. Since you are running WordPress my suggestion would be to go for a SSD plan with good I/O speed that way there will be no bottlenecks during peak hours and the low performance issues will be gone for good.

I recommend you to go with a strong VPS server with Microsoft Hyper-V technology, I am using one from vpswebserver company and I would strongly recommend it, I have been use it for over a year now and it is very reliable.

A VPS will be more than enough for one or even several Wordpress websites. You can get a dedicated server, but normally you don't need that many resources for a Wordpress website. If you need, then probably your Wordpress site is poorly programmed, and it has problems that eat up a lot of resources.

So it's best to optimize your Wordpress website to its best possible condition, and then get a VPS which will be more than enough to handle it.

Also, here are some more recommendations on how to make a Wordpress site work faster, so as it is not only a server thing, but also a programming and caching thing too. We had the same problem on one of our Wordpress sites that got larger than a usual Wordpress site. We had numerous plugins on it, including ecommerce plugins, and the site became slow.

We fixed the slowness problem by doing two things:
1) We installed WP Rocket which is a caching Plugin for WordPress. You can find it at https://wp-rocket.me/ We used two other caching plugins for Wordpress, and both were OK, but still not idea. WP Rocket is absolutely awesome.
2) We made our website go through Cloudflare and enabled the Cloudflare caching and a feature called Cloudflare Rocket Loader. This did a great job too, so as it solved the slowness problems which we had for various reasons.

In the hosting world most people like to live by an 80% rule. When you reach 80% of your resources being used at any one time then its time to upgrade.

Your visitor count is not really that high as far as hardware goes. I would consider going with a VPS that has dedicated resources though, this way as your traffic increases, you can start monitoring the 80% rule. If you wordpress site is optimized, there is no reason a 2 Core, 4GB VPS would not work well for you. As already mentioned, as the site grows, you can upgrade to additional cores and or RAM.

I'd definitely suggest a SSD VPS with 2G or more of RAM and atleast 2 CPU cores. If optimized well with nginx, varnish, etc it will perform extremely well. Upgrading to a dedicated server later on when you need it will be very easy from a VPS to dedicated since both will have root access. Save your self some money and just go with a decent VPS.
