What is the difference between Intel Xeon and i7?
for example, i have two hosting plan with Intel i7 and Intel Xeon, which one is better?

Code:
I7-SSD-1	Intel i7 4790K	4 c/ 8 t	4 GHz+
Code:
E3-SSD-3	Intel Xeon E3 1245v2	4 c/ 8 t	3.4 GHz+
Thank in advance.

XEON are better for web hosting and virtualization because it's the server series of Intel.
But in the benchmark the difference is not so big. I7 are often used for game servers because it have a better frequency.

i7's are built to win a sprint. (Fast speed, for shorter duration. I.E desktop apps and gaming)

Xeon's are built to win a marathon. (Heavy work load, over an extended period of time. I.E. servers)

Xeon's have nearly double the L3 cache of their counterpart the i7. This means that it will perform far better under extended, intensive processing applications. Also, Xeon's offer ECC RAM which means they prevent lots of common data corruption before it can occur and cause one long start to your day. Xeon's max out at 12 cores while the i7 maxes out at 8. Xeon's come with hyper threading at a lower price point.

I got your point, If I need a fast website or server, I should use Intel i*

When you compare both CPU's in a real life environment the difference will be minimal, the i7 will actually outperform the older v2 E3 Xeon. The i7 offers higher clockspeed and better overall performance per core than the older E3, it depends on what are you planing to run, if the software requires better performance per core the i7 is definitely the right choice.

However lets not compare a mid or higher range E5 to an i7, those are heavy duty CPU's with great performance per core.

I'd only ever use desktop grade CPU's when hosting a game server. Minecraft especially benefits from higher clock speeds.
In general, use server grade CPU's like Xeon's and Opteron's.

The Core i7 and Xeon CPUs use the same architecture but Core i7 CPUs are optimized for speed while Xeon CPUs are optimized for reliability.
