How many accounts/websites can a cPanel server host?

I think some people will say it depends on the traffic or processes of websites are requests, but I believe each cPanel account will consume amount of resource on your VPS. My question is, with 8GB of RAM and 4 CPUs how many accounts/websites can a cPanel server host?

This all depends on on the resources used by each account. If you are using CloudLinux this can be controlled however if you are using CentOS one or a few sites can consume all server resources. Regardless of if you are using CloudLinux or CentOS it's still not an easy question to answer neither is it a good idea to put more than 300 sites on a server, if the server goes down you lose everything.

I would say once the load average is around 75% of maximum that server is full. In your case of 4 cpu's a maximum load average of about 3.50 would be acceptable.

It depends on the size of your resources. You need to test it by making a lot of accounts and when your server slows down, then you can just figure when the limit is the limit.

People forget one crucial aspect of sizing servers. How much resources you need for backup process !

More clients you host on a server, the more potential site data is hosted = more intensive the backup process becomes

cPanel's native backup process can be very resource intensive comparatively. I write my own cPanel backup scripts which are more efficient and much faster due to using multi-threaded backup and compression methods ~2-8x times speed up

It all depends on the server specs that you are using.
I have mine limited to a max of 200 personally if the server starts been unstable/maxed out but still not hitting 80% CPU then yo can up its limit but keep an eye on it.

Beat way to check this on a cPanel server is install the munin plugin on your cPanel server.

It collocates all the data and you can easy see it usage though out the day and week to a month depending on how detailed you want to look at the server.

This can be installed via WHM under cpanel > Manage Plugins,
Tick the box Install and keep updated.

I know ClamAV is a massive resource hogger.
Personally i do prefer munin due to the details but it does all depend on the environment on the VPS & cPanel on how the must you have been using etc. if you get me.

This very much depends on the usage of each account and the configuration of your server. For example if you are running LiteSpeed Web Server and CloudLinux you'll likely get a lot more accounts on that server. So there is no set number as such. However as a very rough figure which assumes that each user is consuming minimal resources I'd say 300 accounts. That's normal accounts, not Reseller accounts.

It will be depend on the requirements of your website. If your website needs more disk usage, resources, bandwidth, inode then it will host the less number of accounts.

Bandwidth required is the main factor while deciding the number of accounts to be hosted on the server. You will also need to take into account the backup configuration for the server in the same space so you can allocate the remaining space.

I am just curious if a shared hosting server is offering CloudLinux or not? this would be a good option when choosing shared hosting plans for my website and I will only choose if it has CloudLinux?

What about Storage your CPU and Ram are not bad but... What about storage? For example some customers come to us and buy a VPS with Centos and CPanel with just 10GB of storage this is almost not enough for base OS and panel files, how many websites can you host there?
Maybe 1 that use 100mb on their files
Or maybe 100 that uses 1mb on their files.

The point is your question does not have an answer if you not provide all the variables.
