I have had great experience with Flippa. If your domain is super premium sedo might be a better option. Flippa is a newer crowd in general. What are your opinions? Sedo vs Flippa which is better for selling a domain?

I've looked around flippa for many years now and it seems like a lot of deals there are pretty shady. Like posters sell multiple sites with the same stats etc. I've never gone through with a successful sale there though so this is just my opinion.

Hi energizedit,

I would say Sedo, it seem Sedo have a better platform. Flippa is great if you going for fast auction however you are putting up against a ton of other domain that is also going for auction. Can be hard to sell sometimes.

Have you consider other platforms. You can actually sell your domain to at the same time on multiple platform as long as you read their term and nothing mention regarding to exclusive right to sell your domain. Exclusive right mostly happen if you let them send your domain to auction. Remember to cancel all your domain listing from all platform the instance it is sold or got a solid deal that the buyer can't back away without losing their deposit.

Here are some recommendation: Namejet, Undeveloped, Afternic, Godaddy domain market(remember this one only let you sell up to 1k and not over).

I have a lot of experience with both of these platforms and some similar ones and have seen a lot of differences. Some matter and some don't.

One of the main things with Flippa is that the lower priced and valued domains will do well there.

If you have domains that are higher priced or more valuable then Sedo usually works better.

Usually the domains that I sell are higher priced and valued so Sedo works best for those. It is going to depend on your domains names for determining which place to try to sell them.

I do agree with you. Some platform are better as selling higher price domain then other. Some can sell a unique category of domain but can't never sell others or sell them very cheaply. +1 for your response.

Thank you. :)

I have been in the domain business for a long time and it was a common things that most domain sellers had stated and seen for the most part. Then in the first part of 2014 I stated going through all my records and noting what domains sold for on one versus another, which sold faster, the profit margins, the time it took to sell and some other stats.

After going through all my records I was able to verify what was basically common knowledge in the domain selling market. I have fine tuned where and what I list at each market these days based on the information that I gathered.

If you would like to sell your name right now , Flippa is best place to go. If you want to wait for right buyer which will bring you Gold price, I recommend SEDO in that scenerio.

@Mujkanovic , It depends domain to domain. Nobody will buy crap domain even if you are investing bucks on Ad. Name matters the most.

Flippa was specially build for this, while Sedo is an option, it is more like a domain marketplace for buying or selling domains and chances are it might take time for the sale to go through.

Sedo goes for great names, names that are looking for. If you want to sell a domain that needs explaining before getting someone to buy it, flippa will be the best alternative.

Have you good results when selling websites on flippa?
I tried to list my websites there to sell but didn't get any contacts.

I don't sell domains anymore, but when I did, I wasn't really a fan of flippa cos of their charge in fees. But the few times I used flippa, I got sales.... I switched to afternic and sedo later

SEDO and Flippa both are good at selling the website. Also it is good to get idea of that community. Lot of good buyers and sellers over there. Flippa seems to be a good community where you can find lot of good sellers. Also you can have escrow and other process. You can learn from others. I have seen flippa seems to be a good option for the website sales. In case of domain on the other hand the SEDO is lot better.

It depends on what type of domain you're looking to sell. If you are selling a website with traffic, Flippa would be the best option. If you are looking to sell to other domain investors, Sedo. GoDaddy would be the choice if you're looking for a broader reach. There are also sale marketplaces such as NameJet.

For high value generic .com’s your always better off selecting an experienced domain broker to market your name, especially one that has a long track record with buyers.
