It removes your identity from the domain registration data and replaces it with some white labeled data.
You can see a good example of before and after on the whoisGuard site: http://www.whoisguard.com/

I would recommend buying this. Namecheap gives you a year free. You don't want your home address available for everyone to see.

I agree with you but how much do they charge us for next years?
I have some domains at Godaddy but it is not free.

It is free at the time of purchase of the domain (if it's offered in that extension). If you don't buy it at the time of domain registration then you have to pay full price or use the code below to get it for $1.

After the 1st year you can get it for $1 ($.99) using a generic code that has been around for years: wgspecial .

what is whoisguard
Whoisguard is just a service that a registrar or host offers for the domains registered with them that will keep all of your contact information private and out of the public eye. This can help greatly reduce spam caused by people or bots that scrape whois contact data for the purpose of spam.

It can be used for other things like keeping domain ownership hidden for many reasons, keeping your contact phone number from getting mass junk calls and some other things.

should I pay for it?
If you want your personal contact information kept private, then yes. :D

If you don't want to get spammed by people scraping this data from your whois record. It is best to use this type of service.

I don't know why pricing for renewal of Whoisguard at Namecheap is cheaper than Godaddy. If they have same pricing, I wanted to renew this service for my domains at Godaddy too.

You are very welcome David, we are always happy to help.

I don't know if any of the codes below are still working but they are for discounted privacy at Godaddy. I haven't tried them in a couple of months but they might still work. You can give them a try if you want.

Whois is help you to hide the domain registrar information from the public. If you feel unsecured about domain name privacy then you can choose whois guard. On my opinion, you should buy Whois guard for domain name.

As others have said , whoisguard protects your identity by masking your real info on the WHOIS with a redirect.

Namecheap offers free 1yr of whoisguard to most domain registrations, but it's pretty cheap too if you want to renew it.

Google Domains offer free private WHOIS as a standard feature. They are priced competitively to GoDaddy (assuming you don't have a Godaddy coupon code).

Exactly, I renewed whoisguard at Namecheap with $2 only / 1 year and it is pretty cheap for this feature if compared with other domain registrars.

Google Domains?

Did you use it?

I checked the site and their pricing is pretty high, from $12+ / year.

If you've got over 50 domains with Namecheap, reach out to them and ask to be put on their "Gold" pricing tier, which includes the discounted whois privacy on renewal.

How much do you get from whois privacy on renewal with Namecheap? I have under 10 domain names with them but if they can give me good price and big discounts, I can reach out to your number of your domain names.
I never heard about this privilege from Namecheap before.

Whoisguard is a service that protects your personal information from public view. Some domain selling companies (such as godaddy) charge for this service, while others (such as shoutmydomain) may offer a year free. Not disclosing your personal information could be useful if you are running a kind of blogging business on a controversial topic, or a business that some might consider "shady" (porn, poker, etc to name a few). Sometimes not disclosing your personal information could protect you from spammers as these people can see your contact information (name, address, telephone number, etc) and send you continual spam offers.

I would suggest for a number of reasons to first look at a domain selling company that offers a free period of whoisguard, then continue with purchasing it. It allows you to protect your personal information that you may not want to become public information.
