SMF vs MyBB?

I am currently having a small forum and a blog. The blog uses Wordpress cms while the forum is MyBB. What I want to do is connect the forum and blog, but seem this is not easy task, at least I didn't find any good bridge. So what I was thinking is to convert, but what to convert into? I want to make both are tightly connected and easy to manage. If it's not to much could you tell me which software would fit my needs better? SMF or MyBB?

I would highly recommend MyBB because of the features it as and the overall coding aspects of it. You will find more people that are into MyBB than SMF plus you should be able to connect MyBB forums via Wordpress and Wordpress via Mybb so members that are registered via Wordpress wont have to register via MyBB.

For the management for both of the forum platforms, they are both pretty straight forward but MyBB I would say is a lot better..

I agree with @LeatherCrafting in that myBB would be the better choice from these two options. If you want something which is tightly integrated then XenForo has some good bridge add-ons and some specifically for bridging Wordpress with the XenForo forum software.

Depending on what your needs are you can also just use only Wordpress and use a forum plugin like BuddyPress to add the forum to your Wordpress installation. These forum plugins though are not as good for a forum as dedicated forum software is.

I have used used the bbPress plugin to add a forum to a wordpress blog another student that I go to college with had. His blog was about cars and he wanted a forum for people to talk and discus things about cars. I have to say that it worked really well but it is more basic and without a lot of the features that regular forum software types have.

myBB has an addon that ads a blog to your myBB installation that you might want to look into and see if it fits your needs. It's called Xthreads and it has many other features also. I haven't tried it myself but I was looking at it last year when I was thinking about starting my own forum using myBB.

I tried both MyBB and SMF, and they're good, but when the forum gets too big, they start to become spammed to death very quickly. So be prepared to research mods, etc to help keep the spam out.

vBulletin and XenForo are much better though they're paid.

MyBB is better, it has tons of plugins and you can even make a website out of it, not only a forum.

Thanks for your suggestions, I visited MyBB forum but their theme didn't support responsive, I need a forum software that support users to view best on mobile devices, not only on PCs.

vBulletin and XenForo are good for this point but they are paid ones.

Mybb is alot better than SMF it has many features, many designed themes, many things.
If you wanna start a good forum use a Mybb you wont make a mistake.

My personal preference is for the SMF. The reason being it's very easy to setup. Also for the users it's easy to read and navigate. Not to say MyBB and PHPBB are not easy to setup or hard to read. But I have found that it's worth going for the SMF if you want to have extensions and also you can have many good themes. I have found that SMF is preference for some of my clients. So I tend to choose the SMF.

SMF has a lot of uploaders. This fact makes it much easier to get themes, mods, and logos on there. Also, for a newbie, unaccustomed to uploading via a cPanel or FTP, it can make accessibility way faster.

Fighting spam isn't as difficult as it seems. Often hard questions at user registration like, "What is the first letter in the word forum?" can keep them out, and if you need something even tougher, then try to ask people to write a word backward.

MyBB seems more popular, has a lot of free mods and themes out there too. I don't think the free option will ever match up to a paid option but its a good start.
