Starting any business with 0 or very little clients will always be a struggle, but I think the hosting industry is far harder to get a foot hold than most other business sectors.

Time, Passion, Quality and never quit These are the things that make any business a success.

Yes, getting the first clients is any businesses largest hurdle to overcome. Also, if it is a new industry you are not familiar with the learning curve can be pretty big.

I am not a hosting provider but If I was, I feel difficult in getting sales, server management and control team to support customers. I am just curious how the providers are handling these problems.

It's the same for all businesses my friend. Whether you open a pawn shop or web hosting company, getting your first customer is a demanding task.

Pricing seems to be a concern. You see some companies offering from $1/mo to $17/mo, offering the same exact thing. Finding a comfortable middle ground is the struggle.

First struggle was to decide a good name for hosting company, can't really find a good .com or .net domain

Getting first 100 customers is the biggest trouble, we remember we paid for our first server without revenue at all for about 2 months and were in loss for about an year, but after 1 year we started growing and now after 2 years we have over 400 VPS customers, lots of web hosting clients

We even had lots of of problem as founders of our company are from India and could not get a good payment gateway in India and other problems, so first we setup company in Singapore and now recently moved to US

You are right on these, for all websites, all of us are wanting to get many clients or visitors more as possible.

This can work in any case but for me I don't like using free hosting/services, I have bad experience with free domain or hosting services.
I always pay for paid services in the past, even I paid for a hosting panel with $xxx while I have not earned any dollars online yet but I saw potentiality when invested into websites and of course paid services always are my choice.

I think that that's all about clients, more clients you get, more successes you will have and it helps you expand your company bigger.

When your client base grows you have to accommodate your infrastructure in advance, or else you'll end up with a lot of unhappy clients. When we saw that our teams client base was increasing, we updated everything in advanced and it was pretty hard to do that without revenue coming in. Getting off the ground is another major struggle.

I think everybody will agree - it's getting the clients.
For the first 6 months or a year you will struggle with getting the clients for sure.
