Hi every one

Long before Web2.0 and the advent of social networks, one of the best places to network on the Internet was business forums.

What is more, in spite of the huge surge in social networking sites (facebook, Twitte, etc), a forum is still more conducive to a focused group discussion. Do you agree? Is forum still best and more effective for networking?

Thanks

It depends on what service exactly you want to promote. In general forums are good platforms for selling, but a certain verticals and niches perform better on social media. So when one is going to sell a certain product, market research is critical. This is a very broad question to be answered in simple manner.

Basically you can push anything on FB, info or tangible products and CPA offers as well. This is why when you have something to promote you will need to make very solid, market research. You have to answer yourself a few questions.

What is your customers demographic, from there you will locate where they hangout on FB (on which pages and groups). After you know that, you have to create your sales funnel. Do the user need a pre-sale in order to boost his buying decision, or you can drive them directly to the sales page.

Some people sells stuff straight on FB (directly in groups pages or their own wall), some have a FB integrated store, other drive the traffic to their own properties, there are also people which drive the traffic directly to the sales page(this is in affiliate scenario).

I can advise you to pick product first and then start to build your sales funnel. The best bet would be to test the stuff yourself you gonna learn a lot from that.

Forums can be a good way to network. No doubt about it.

Though, for me, from my experience, blog commenting has been a much better way to make connections. Much better. And a side benefit, it can help alot more with your social marketing.

I have just started using forums and I have learned more actionable information in the past few days than I have using twitter and facebook. There is definitely more actual discussion and varied opinions here than some other platforms. In that way, the expectation on a forum is to share quality information and you see many sides of an issue with details of why instead of just seeing a "Like".

I've been a member of a number of Facebook groups and 'Mastermind' groups and I have found that very little in-depth discussion takes place. Usually if you want an answer to something a good Forum is still the best place to go.

Forums are still the best place to discuss and learn new things without a doubt. I think twitter and linkedin are great for networking and making connections.

I have to admit that I can't stand big facebook marketing groups, because people there sometimes forget why this group exist. Instead of answering the others questions about asking for help they just laugh that somebody knows less than they.
It's just for stroke their ego.
I pefer small forums and groups where people don't be ashamed of asking.
