Because .com .net .org are one of the first domains released since 1985, that's why most of everyone use it, because is best known tld.

That domain name extension is used as domain name extension by default. For example someone says: check on google. And we all understand that we need to check google.com

I wound-up grabbing the .design version of my .com because I have a two-word company with Design as the second word. But, make no mistake, I will lose traffic to the *design.com address. Luckily, I started with the .com version and won't give it up, always using the .com, .net, .us and others to steer traffic to the website on the .design address.

Why .net for a brand design agency? Because we have a highly impactful internet presence and a large internet portfolio. Why the .org? Because we do charitable work we may want to one day highlight. Why the .us? Because our brand is international, and people of other countries use their own country code Top Level Domain (ccTLD) as the default address, so if they are looking for an expert in America, they may well look for a .us domain-based address.

Another reason to register more than just the .com (or any other TLD) is to avoid Domain Squatters, which could register your branded domain in another extension and then post material that is offensive to your customers, essentially ruining your reputation unless you buy the offending domain name in question from them. To fight that, we have multiple renditions of our brand as a .com and a .net.

If you have a brand that is easily misspelled, I would also register that domain. As an example, a large company that might register HisStore.whatever might also consider registering histore.whatever, because of the easy misspell, but anything where a brand might be miscommunicated (does it pass the phone test where you don't have to spell it out or explain it, it is easily understood verbally) and redirect that misspell to the right spelling.

However, it isn't a good idea to become a domain squatter, guys. It will ruin your online marketing reputation quickly as Google sees what you try to pull off and all your websites will get buried, and the sale of a domain name has to be less than the company hiring a half-witted lawyer that would easily destroy any Copyright or Trademark infringements. Those guys are just idiots.

I think it is the best because it is popular and always be stable price when buying or renewing this domain extension. If you go with tld domain names, you can have to pay pretty high.

I think that to a lot of people see .com and .org as being stable and more 'genuine' somehow, along with country TLDs if the site is relevant to a particular country.

Some other TLDs are also more reputable and if they are relevant to what they are hosting. We use a .host domain for our company site because it's a host and that makes sense to us. We also have a .eco domain for something else that is, you guessed, it eco related. The only downside of these kind of domains is that they are generally quite a lot more expensive than a .com.

Then there are all of the bargain basement TLDs like .xyz, which I would avoid completely for any public facing sites, because to most people they just scream 'cheap and unreliable'.

COM domains are designed to be used for commercial purposes, which is why they are the most popular in the United States. For a for-profit company, use an ORG domain, and for a nonprofit organization, use a.NET domain. Many businesses purchase all three variations to help protect their brand.

I would echo most of the points made above.

Look, .COM has been the big daddy of all the domains mainly because it was one of the earliest TLDs to come into the market after ICANN also released other like .BIZ, .NET, .INFO etc.

If you look at all the domains that are there, .COM gives you a more legit and genuine feel because earlier, when the websites came out, they were marketed as , if its not a .COM its not a website.

That drove the message and also the sales for brands.

Today, there are many options. gTLDs, nTLDs etc.

So, if you are looking for a website that caters to a category, it is great. Choose a .tech if its a technology magazine or blog or .IO if its a new app and so on. But .COM has a universal appeal and maybe that's why, it is still prominent.

Won't call it the best choice because it is very subjective and situational too. I wont suggest .com to someone who wants to start a dating app. Maybe some other TLD.

But if you are looking for .COM prices or suggesting someone then I have had a fairly good experience with BigRock. Also because of the range of nTLDs and gTLDs.

So yeah, .COM definitely universal but also very common now.

Having a website with a .com domain improves credibility and reliability.

The .com domain name is often considered the best choice for several reasons:

Familiarity: The .com domain is the most widely used top-level domain (TLD) and has been around since the early days of the internet. It is the most familiar TLD and is therefore the most easily recognizable.

Credibility: Many people believe that a .com domain name is more credible and trustworthy than other TLDs. This is because the .com TLD has been around for a long time and is associated with established, legitimate businesses and organizations.

Availability: Because .com is the most popular TLD, it can be difficult to find a short, memorable domain name that is still available. However, the fact that it is so widely used also means that many people are familiar with it and are more likely to remember a .com domain name than a less common TLD.

SEO: While the TLD itself does not directly impact search engine optimization (SEO), many people believe that a .com domain name may be more likely to rank higher in search engine results due to its perceived credibility and authority.

Other TLDs like .best, .at, .hosting, .net, tv, and .company can also be good choices, depending on your specific needs and goals. For example, if you are targeting a specific geographic region, a country-specific TLD like .at (for Austria) may be more appropriate. Similarly, if you are running a website related to television or media, a .tv TLD may be a good fit. However, it's important to keep in mind that these TLDs are less well-known and may be less familiar to users, which could make it harder to build brand recognition and trust.
