Hello everyone, I have hosted many websites for the past 5 years, and I used Centmin Mod for some. I'm looking for a free alternative to Centmin Mod to play around with on my home server and host a couple websites. The fact that Centmin mod has no GUI makes me a little difficult since i'm not professional at using the ssh terminal. I would learn a new one which can be better and easier?

You may try CentOS Web Panel [ http://centos-webpanel.com/ ] . Lot of people are using it nowadays and you can give it a try if you are looking for free solution.

If you want lightweight Bash script tool for setup WordPress servers there is only few ones with strong features and maintenance like:

  • CentminMod
  • SlickStack
  • EasyEngine (now Docker if using after v4 versions)
  • Webinoly (copy EasyEngine v3)
  • WordOps (fork of EasyEngine v3)
  • VPSSIM
  • HocVPS
But Centminmod, VPSSIM, and HocVPS are more general and not WordPress focus. Actually, Webinoly also focus little bit on static sites too, etc.

SlickStack, WordOps maybe the easy ones currently for advanced user who is not expert about programming and Linux etc.

And some of them also including WP-CLI also for some easy WordPress CLI commands if you want (but not necessary to use it too).

GUI is really overrated and actually will make more security problems, bloated code, etc. Its very easy to learn basic Bash commands after study for few days only.

If you really must keep the UI and want like cPanel copycat, well its not lightweight but some options:

  • cPanel
  • Plesk
  • Virtualmin
  • VestaCP
  • Webmin
  • ISPconfig
  • Cloudmin
  • Directadmin
  • CentOS web panel (CWP)
  • etc
There are so so many UI for shared hosting (shared server) control panels now. But many security risks and you must take carefully about that.

Learn a few Bash commands and you will have faster, lighter, safer web server... easier to setup, easier to migrate, etc.

Hello @BillEssley,

As the lead developer of WordOps, it will be pretty hard for me to be impartial and to suggest you another solution.
But before working on this project, I was at first an EasyEngine v3 user looking for a way to eases WordPress/PHP bases sites deployment and server management.

That's what we are trying to achieve with WordOps, by keeping it simple with commands like wo site create site.tld --wp to create a wordpress site or wo site create site.tld --mysql to create a php site with a database (it should work out of the box with the most part of PHP based applications).

We have also focused on user experience, and WordOps come with a clean server dashboard which display server monitoring metrics and the list of tools available (phpmyadmin, phpinfo, adminer, eXtplorer). An online demo is available here : https://demo.wordops.eu/

And if after testing it, you do not love WordOps, you can still easily remove all packages installed by WordOps and even uninstall it from your server.
