Do not make a confusion between VPS (Virtual private server) and VPN (Virtual private network).
But VPS are reliable and a pretty good hosting solution until your provider keep it secure.
Because VPS are virtual server hosted on a physical machine, but that mean if the physical machine is hacked, all VPS are hacked too.

If you have a proper provider for your VPS server, everything should be fine and safe. Ever used a VPS before?

Please note, VPN and VPS are two independent concepts. Here you will get the exact difference - https://forumweb.hosting/14921-what-is-the-difference-between-vpn-and-vps.html

Now regarding safety, it is up to you. You should have the proper security and firewall setup then there won't be any issue. You should have proper monitoring tools for the overall monitoring your VPS. You should have periodical updates and security patching. You can ask your VPS provider for the security setup. They will setup it for you. :)

A VPS is probably safer than shared hosting, but it still has it's own unique risks.

Virtual Private Server as the name refers offers you a private dedicated space in a shared hardware. That said, as its a shared hardware the underlying technology enabled for virtualization and the way your host manage the platform is very importnant for your data security. Normally most of the hosting providers use any of the decent solutions available in market to enable virtualization for the ease of use/manage and to enable smooth billing of the resources. So generally it will be safe but always choose a well known and trusted provider.

VPS hosting is safe for hosting your website, it just depends on the which web hosting provider you are hosting.
Security depends on the hosting provider, how he secures the data and keep it safe.

VPS and VPN are two different things. In terms of virtual servers (VPS), the security depends on the firewall configuration and server hardening. Most managed VPS providers do server hardening at no extra cost.

I recommend getting a managed VPS if you do not have prior knowledge. The provider will setup your server to make sure its ready to host the website.

Hmm..Imagine you are running a web server on a Virtual Private Server (VPS) hosted in a datacenter. Could the people running the datacenter covertly read files from my VPS's hard disk? Could an attacker or malicious admin who has compromised the VPS provider, take my private SSL key (or other data) loaded into memory (for use by apache) and then use my CA signed key in attacks? So, it all depends on you.

When you purchased a VPS, in the case it is not managed VPS then it looks like a machine and it will not safe if you don't install or configure security software to protect it.
If you are comparing a VPS with a shared hosting then it is more safer because anyway vps is just for you to use while shared hosting is be used by many users on a same source.

It really all comes down to how secure you make it, providers will give you everything you need usually so always pick one that's popular and has been reveiewed. You and the provider make all the difference.

Very true. Customer should always check what service he is buying and make sure his VPS is secure if he buys unmanaged one.

hi ,

f you aren't experienced with admin work, I would recommend hiring someone.

General areas they should cover...

disable unneeded Apache modules
mod_security
firewall config
lockdown of wget, curl, etc.

Hi,

VPS Hosting is safe, I am telling this with my own experience. I am using a VPS Hosting plan since last 6 months for my own website without any trouble.
