I use Namecheap and Namesilo and avoiding GoDaddy. Don't like their marketing voice and general practices.

I used Namecheap, InternetBS, NameSillo, Name .com and many other domain registrar and here is my review.

Best By Support
  • InternetBS - Most of my issues resolved by LiveChat help and sometimes when your issue is billing related then they will ask you to send email. They are fast.
  • NameCheap provide live chat help which is really helpful.
By Pricing:
  • NameSillo.
  • InternetBS.
Easy Control Panel:
  • Its easy to register/change IP with NameSillo, Name .com and InternetBS but with NameCheap its very hard to update IP of existing NameServer.

Namecheap is the best option because of their support.

The best domain provider can make a huge difference in the success of your businesses, websites and online properties. Utilizing them in the right way, and ultimately, picking out the best ones right from the start, can help lead you to greater levels of success more quickly than you could have imagined. Use this brief guide to see for yourself how to find the best ones, how to utilize free domains and more.

One of the primary concerns that you should be paying attention to with domain names is how short and memorable it is. The general rule of thumb is that the shorter the domain, the better it is, and the better results it will be able to produce. People need to be able to remember your address so if they see it somewhere, hear an advertisement, or anything else, they can just type it in directly and know where to find you.

Finding a good domain name is also very important as promotion of a website starts with this task only. If the right name is selected then half of the task is done. So don't even think of choosing any name for your website as it can have an adverse impact on all your promotional efforts.

To be honest, I really don't think that the domain registrar is massively important within reason, as long as we are talking about a registrar and not a reseller.

Gandi, Porkbun, Namecheap, Dynadot, etc are all fine.

Personally based on our own and client experiences I'd advise avoiding GoDaddy if you care about support, and avoiding Ionos in all cases. I'd also avoid any registrar that doesn't let you easily control DNSSEC.

That wasn't the question though, the OP was asking (a few years ago actually) about best domain registrars not picking a name.

Not a huge fan of GoDaddy, renewals are really high. But you can look at BigRock as a domain provider. They have a lot of variety with their extensions and domain name suggestions.

Price and support then Godaddy and Namecheap are the best.

Godaddy could give me a discount when you renew more domains once, I can ask them to renew domains worth $150 and they could give me a discount worth $20 while Namecheap then No.

Agree with the price and discount bit, but i would choose security over price if that is the case. BigRock has both discount and good security.

Regarding prices, don't get fooled by them prices, I'd say that most of them have a higher annual renewal price compatred to what you paid for the first year. I sometimes compare the renewal prices and sort them by price on the TLD List website

Yeah definitely experienced a higher renewal rate with many different domain registrars. Also, I asked for promo codes from GoDaddy for example and on renewals they aren’t offered.

So be prepared for your renewal prices for domains to be higher for sure.

@djb1829 makes a good point. You should always check the renewal prices as well as the initial registration price, if you don't want to either pay more or need to move at the end of the initial registration period.

Best is subjective to the person who is purchasing a service. For some GoDaddy cannot be beat even if their renewal fees are way higher than other Registrars. For others the price is part of it, but customer service is the main thing for them. Others prefer the backend admin panel that easy to use and provides all the bells and whistles that they want.

For me I prefer Dynadot and here is why. I have been hosting my domains with them for almost 18 years, but have bought domains and hosted at others such as GoDaddy, NameCheap and others, however, I always go back to Dyanadot by transferring my domains.

My reasons:

  1. Upfront Pricing - When I buy a domain at their regular price that is what it renews for. Currently .coms are $9.99 and have only increased a dollar since I first started using them.
  2. Their backend panel is my favorite. I find it easy to use compared to others that can be confusing at times. GoDaddy did make a few improvements though, thankfully, because years ago their panel was garbage.
  3. Customer support - They offer phone, email and live chat and I have always gotten knowledgeable people who were courteous and understanding.
  4. Constant Improvements of service
  5. Singularly focused - Dynadot does offer a few ancillary services such as SSL Certs and web hosting that is very basic, but they do not push this. This is not their revenue stream and they focus on what they do best.

Some registrars focus on being a full service provider and are never really great at any one thing; or are great at one thing, but get distracted with other services that they provide horrible support for let alone poor quality.

In my opinion, the best domain provider is Namecheap.
This is a well-known domain provider, and people speak well of it.

Porkbun is my favorite. I have about fifteen years managing registration for a large number of domains. I've used all of the major registrars. Namecheap had been my prior favorite, but about a year ago I had a client decide to give up a domain I had registered through Namecheap and then change their mind a month after expiry. Namecheap squatted on the domain and wanted an excessive fee to return it. Shady behavior = lost customer with me.

Personally I advise our clients to avoid GoDaddy like the plague for all sorts of reasons, mostly related to customer service. Absolutely no complaints about Namecheap though.
