.com is always recommended option.
make sure your domain related to your site or niche.
for eg. if you want to start food blogging and you are choosing education related domain. this is totally irrelevant
isn't it?
also, keep it short and simple.
like healthy-foods.com , food4life,com etc.

If you're an Internet Service Provider, then .net would be appropriate, but generally .com domains still reign the day. It's simply more often searched by default.
