I am looking for a forum software that liked by the most people, it doesn't need to be free but if it is good as paid ones then it is a big plus. Right now I found some as woltlab, xenforo and vanilla. What is your favorite forum software?

XenForo is great. Discourse and NodeBB are also great. We have a few clients running them. It all depends on what you're going to use it for, how experienced you are, if you plan on using pre-designed themes etc.

I've tried Vanilla and vBulletin in the past and I preferred the former because it was easy to set up and use. I also liked the look and feel of Vanilla forums. If you want a more standard and formal looking forum, then you could go with vBulletin.

In addition, a WordPress site could also have a forum of its own. The BBPress plugin is an awesome plugin that allows you to create a forum on a WordPress site. The result would look kind of like a vBulletin forum. It lacks the deep customisation as other forum software like Vanilla, but that can be easily overlooked because it's so easy to set up and maintain.

I really like Xenforo, it has a modern design and it flows really well. And what I mean by flow is its easy to use. You don't have to search all over to find a forum function because they are easy accessible. There is nothing worse then going on a forum and going on a witch hunt to try and find the function you're looking for!

P.S. I am using Xenforo on my website and my members really seem to enjoy it.

Personally I love Flarum, I use it on a personal project site, and we have also installed it on a few client sites.

It's modern and clean, more like Discourse than a 'traditional' forum I guess, and it has an excellent open source community supporting it.

There are several good forum software options available. Here are a few recommendations:
  1. Discourse: A modern and popular forum software with a clean and user-friendly interface.
  2. phpBB: A free and open-source forum software that is easy to use and highly customizable.
  3. Vanilla Forums: A cloud-based forum software that offers advanced features such as social integration and gamification.
  4. MyBB: A free and open-source forum software with a simple and intuitive interface.
  5. Flarum: A modern and lightweight forum software that offers a mobile-friendly interface and real-time discussions.
My personal favorite is Discourse. I like it's sleek interface, and above all the strong community.

There are many popular forum software options available, including phpBB, vBulletin, SMF (Simple Machines Forum), Discourse, and Vanilla Forums, among others. Each has its own features and benefits, and the choice often depends on the needs and preferences of the user.

Each of the forum software options I mentioned has its own strengths and weaknesses, and the best choice will depend on your specific needs and preferences. Here are some general characteristics of each:
  1. phpBB: This is a popular open-source forum software that is free to use. It's easy to set up, has a large community, and offers a wide range of customization options.
  2. vBulletin: This is a paid forum software that offers a range of advanced features, including a built-in CMS, social media integration, and mobile responsiveness. It's a popular choice for large forums and online communities.
  3. SMF (Simple Machines Forum): This is a free and open-source forum software that is easy to use and customize. It offers a range of features, including moderation tools and SEO optimization.
  4. Discourse: This is a modern, open-source forum software that focuses on community engagement and discussion. It offers features such as real-time updates, email integration, and social media integration.
  5. Vanilla Forums: This is a paid forum software that offers a range of features, including gamification, integration with popular apps like Slack and Zapier, and SEO optimization.
Ultimately, the choice between free or paid forum software will depend on your budget and specific needs. If you're just starting out or have a limited budget, a free option like phpBB or SMF might be a good choice. If you need advanced features and have a larger budget, a paid option like vBulletin or Vanilla Forums might be a better fit.

Apart from the fact that the question was asked six years ago (so hopefully they chose one by now), all of the generic lists of well known forum software aren't really super helpful. It would be a lot more useful to actually express an opinion...

My favourite forum software is ___ because ____ .
