Hi,
I am going to start a new business. currently, we are planning the technical aspects of the business. We lack space for the server. Therefore, we were thinking about hosting the web and data on cloud hosting services. I want the data to be secured. I read on this blog about something called a master key or split key encryption. Does every cloud provider offer that? Does an ordinary business that deals with a fair customer volume need to avail that service? I would appreciate if anyone can share about split key encryption.

Thanks in advance.

Hello,
you should not need to encrypt all your server files, and I don't recommend it because there are more risks of loosing the key than of getting your data hacked.
It's also have an important impact on the server performances.

With cloud hosting you can use SSH keys, to secure your connection to the server, that mean you will use a file(key) to access to your server and without it, it will be not possible to login as user (on the server side, not on your website).

But if you follow the security good practices :
- Install fail2ban
- Install a firewall
- Use cloudflare
- keep server updated

You should not have security issues
