cPanel vs. Plesk

Before deciding to choose a good hosting control panel to go with, I wanted to have some comparisons between 2 great hosting control panels, it is cPanel and Plesk. Which one is better? and why? I really want to know what things (functions, add-ons, features, software..etc) cPanel has that Plesk doesn't have and vice versa. if you have good experience on both two hosting panels, please share your thoughts.

The only professional hosting panel is cPanel which is used from 90% of the hosting providers.

You are asking for self usage purpose or you want to start providing shared hosting? Because if is for self usage then you can go with Plesk and the basic license for 10domains.

I don't like cPanel.

Yes I am asking as a normal user using needing a web hosting to host my blog sites, not a hosting provider and I am not a hosting provider.

I agree that it is easy to use but I also ran this hosting panel, i feel my websites load slower when running cPanel and it consumes more server resource. I could not show exactly how it consumed, maybe I need a tool to check how it works.

For the resource usage on cPanel there is nice plugins for that.

Remember that cPanel default apache conf is not optimized and you will have to play with it. Also you can install NGINX as proxy to boost your loading time.

If you are not gonna host anyone else or sell hosting then you could go for SINGLE USER control panel like WEBUZO .

The big difference between cPanel/WHM and Plesk is the first one is build for hosting providers, with 2 control panels when Plesk can be used as an hosting provider or as server administrator without having to logout.

Plesk has built-in WordPress Toolkit for easy managing WordPress sites. Also you can always get a high-level help from one of the best Joomla experts on Plesk forum.

"Any proofs?" You wan't proof that the water you are drinking is in liquid form ?

My opinion is straight forward, the control panel should compatible , stable and easy to administrate as well as the support should be available quickly. If its a linux server then use Cpanel .. since Cpanel is the most compatible control panel so far with the Linux server and if you ran in some issues there is always support available.

If its a windows server then go for Plesk control panel since it is the most compatible control panel for windows so far.

We have been managing servers from last 9 years and found these 2 control panels better for linux and windows accordingly.

Agreed with you but just a problem I have seen on cPanel, it is consume more RAM over other hosting panels. I don't know why.

I thought Plesk also supported Linux and you could install it on a Linux hosting.

Ofcourse Plesk works on linux as well as on Windows too.

Well your comments regarding cpanel are strange , I never heard or seen high RAM usages by Cpanel so far . We have been managing Cpanel servers from last 9 years. Well .. if you have not configured or optimized the servers properly then the other processes ( not cpanel )can consume the server resources like mysql , php or apache .

But cpanel .. never.

my vote goes to cpanel, i did work with plesk had no issues with it, but cpanel is better in terms of automation of lot of resources which makes it more user friendly and no 1 choice

I'm not too keen on Plesk. cPanel all the way for me. ISPManager looks quite good too. They all have their pros and cons that's for sure.

I have to agree that cPanel has user friendly better than others.

I am using cPanel, Directadmin and Plesk on different VPS, each one has its advantages and it is hard to decide which is the best.

Thanks a lot for the reply in the thread (one I posted at WebMasterSun), although ISPmanager is way lower in price than even £6/month (the retail price is 4 EUR/month which equals to around £3.3/month).

Please let me know how your testing went and your thoughts - it would be great to know your feedback about it, especially in terms of comparing it against cPanel.

Ah, this debate again.

cPanel or Plesk... is sort of a matter of preference really. its more of the case of what are you familiar with using. I personally am used to using cPanel, so for me to jump on Plesk, I don't know if I can be bothered to figure out everything again.

Having said that, not that i'm aware of... there shouldn't be anything significantly missing that would stop you managing your hosting sufficiently on either of them. Unless you have a specific technical reason why you would choose one over the other.

Keep in mind though, cPanel isn't compatible with Windows Servers. Not without mods.. and the build that did support Windows is no longer support by cPanel. In that scenario, Plesk would be the recommended option. Worth getting Demos of both and seeing it for yourself. In most cases, it's a matter of preference and what you're familiar with...
